Francis L. Horspool (1871-1951) was an American painter from Utah. His work is in the permanent collection of the Springville Museum of Art.

Life

Horspool was born in 1871 in Ogden, Utah. [1] [2] His father William was an immigrant from England who converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. [1] [2]

Horspool initially worked for the railroad in Ogden, and he relocated to Salt Lake City in 1907. He worked as a civil engineer, salesman, and draftsman. By 1931, he had become a full-time painter. [2]

Horspool died in 1951 in Salt Lake City, at age 80, [2] and he was buried in the Ogden City Cemetery. [3] His work is in the permanent collection of the Springville Museum of Art in Springville, Utah. [2]

John B Fairbanks was an American landscape painter. In 1890, he was one of a group of artists who studied in Paris under the sponsorship of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in preparation for painting murals at the nearly completed Salt Lake Temple. He painted murals in the Salt Lake Temple and the Mesa Arizona Temple that still exist today. Fairbanks was the official photographer for the South American expeditions of Benjamin Cluff. Fairbanks was the first artist to live and paint in Zion National Park. He was an early art instructor at Brigham Young Academy and was one of the founding members of the Utah Art Institute. Fairbanks was the father of artists John Leo Fairbanks, Ortho Lane Fairbanks and Avard Tennyson Fairbanks (sculptor).

Theodore Milton Wassmer was an American painter. Wassmer was interested in art at a young age, but decided to become an artist after attending the 1934 Chicago World's Fair. He supported his family throughout the Great Depression. Wassmer has studied under multiple teachers and studied the work of painters in museums. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He has donated several of his paintings to several museums in Utah. He produced more than 2,000 works of art including paintings, watercolors, and sketches that are displayed in museums around the world. In his personal life, he married fellow artist Judy Farnsworth Lund in December 1945.

Mary Lou Romney, born Mary Louisa Stone, was an American Painter who resided in Utah. Romney studied art at the University of Utah where she earned a BFA and then completed a Post Graduate Education Certification program. She continued her education at Utah State University where she earned an MFA with a minor in Education. She was a nationally recognized painter and illustrator. She taught briefly at Utah State University, then spent many years teaching at the University of Utah, and was involved in local and regional art organizations, exhibits, and contests.
