Elections in Jersey take place for the States Assembly and at parish-level. Various parties have been formed over the years in Jersey,but few candidates stand for election affiliated to any political party. All elections in Jersey use the first-past-the-post voting system. In 2008,the voting age was reduced to 16 years.
Although the politics of Jersey has been largely based on independent parliamentary representatives,from time to time the island has had political parties. There are currently 4 active political parties in the island.
The Jersey Democratic Alliance was a political party in Jersey. JDA candidates contested general elections in 2005 and 2008 but announced in August 2011 that it would not be fielding candidates in the October 2011 elections.
Nia H. Gill is an American Democratic Party politician,who has represented the 34th Legislative District in the New Jersey State Senate since 2002. She ran unsuccessfully as a candidate in the June 2012 primary election to fill the seat in Congress left vacant by the death of Donald M. Payne,the former U.S. Representative for New Jersey's 10th congressional district. Gill was the State Senate President pro Tempore from 2010 to 2018,succeeded by Teresa Ruiz.
Stephen Roy Williams is a British Liberal Democrat politician who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Bristol West from the 2005 general election until his defeat by Labour Party candidate Thangam Debbonaire in 2015. As an MP,he served in the Cameron–Clegg coalition government as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department of Communities and Local Government from 2013 to 2015.

The party's biennial convention,already scheduled to occur from November 29 to December 1,2006 in Montreal's Palais des congrès,was followed by the party's leadership convention at the same venue occurring December 2 to December 3,2006. As the winner,Stéphane Dion led the Liberal Party into the 2008 federal election.

The Council of Ministers is the collective decision-making body of the Government of Jersey,formed by the Ministers of the States of Jersey and the Chief Minister. The council co-ordinates policies and administration,especially policy affecting two or more ministers,prioritises executive and legislative proposals,and presents a "Strategic Plan for Jersey" for approval by the States Assembly.
The 2011 Jersey general election was held on 19 October 2011 to elect 45 members of the States Assembly. This was the first time Senators,Deputies and Constables were elected on a single day in Jersey. The number of members of the States of Jersey was reduced from 53 to 51. Six Senators who had been elected in 2008 for a period of six years did not face election in 2011.
Alphonse Le Gastelois was an agricultural worker and fisherman from Jersey who lived in self-imposed exile on the Écréhous reef for 14 years after being wrongly accused of a string of sexual assaults on children. Fearing for his life,Le Gastelois felt compelled to leave Jersey to live on the small island six miles to the north east of Jersey,having been treated as a criminal and ostracised by many who lived on Jersey. Ten years later,on 10 July 1971,the real criminal,Edward Paisnel,nicknamed the Beast of Jersey,was caught and on 29 November 1971,was sentenced to jail for 13 attacks;this ended an 11-year reign of terror.
The 2022 Jersey general election was held on June 22 to elect the 49 members of the States Assembly.
