Francisco Serrano (born June 27, 1949) is a Mexican poet and writer whose multiple works also include opera librettos and publications in collaboration with painters. For over a decade, Serrano contributed actively to a variety of cultural affairs initiatives undertaken by the Mexican government.
Serrano initiated his studies at Colegio Madrid in Mexico City, his city of origin. He studied political science and filmmaking at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and French literature at the Sorbonne University in Paris. He was a poetry scholarship recipient from the Centro Mexicano de Escritores and from the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte . [1]
An active participant in his native country's cultural affairs for many years, Serrano's past appointments and positions include: Coordinator of Publications for the Ministry of Education’s Directorate of Publications and Libraries; Director of International Relations for the National Institute of Fine Arts; and Chief Advisor roles with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Secretariat for International Cooperation, the National Council for Culture and Arts (Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes) and the National Institute of Anthropology and History. [1] For several years, he directed the publication of México en el Arte , and was an active collaborator on publications such as Casa del Tiempo , the newspapers El Nacional , La Jornada Semanal and El Universal , amongst others. In 1971 he published his first book, Canciones egipcias. A disciple of Octavio Paz, Serrano experimented with the use of random processes in poetic composition. In 1980, in collaboration with painter Arnaldo Coen and composer Mario Lavista, he was a co-creator of Mutaciones, Jaula, In/cubaciones, a piece of work combining design, music and poetry conceived as a tribute to American composer John Cage. [3] In 1982, Serrano published Libro de hexaedros, a collection of sixty-four poems that together, reinterprets and synthesizes images and processes described in the hexagrams of the I Ching . Libro de hexaedros served as the foundation for the creation of El cubo de los cambios, a piece of stochastic poetry which, again, was the result of a creative collaboration with Arnaldo Coen.
He ventured as well upon visual poetry and theater. He is the author of the dramatic poems: La rosa de Ariadna, [4] used as the libretto in the opera of the same name written by Italian composer Gualtiero Dazzi, and which premiered in 1995 at the Musica Festival in Strasbourg, France; and En susurros los muertos, a musical, also with G. Dazzi, first presented at the Música y Escena Festival in Mexico in 2005.
Serrano is the co-author of several books with Mexican painters Manuel Felguérez, Vicente Rojo, Gabriel Macotela and Roberto Cortázar. He has published thirteen titles of poetry, including No es sino el azar (1984), Confianza en la materia (1997), Música de la lengua (1999), Aquí es ninguna parte (2000), Prosa del Popocatépetl (2005) and Cuenta de mis muertos (2006). His poems have been translated into English, French, Portuguese, Italian, German, Flemish, Swedish and Japanese. He is the author of various anthologies of Mexican and Latin American poetry and several books for children. He has also contributed to the enrichment of the Spanish language having penned literary translations of poetry first written by the Provençal troubadours, the Carmina Buranas , the Book of Job and various other works of mainly French and English poets. These translations are compiled in the volume entitled Movimiento de traslación. [5]

Gabriel Zaid is a Mexican writer, poet and intellectual.
Juan Gelman was an Argentine poet. He published more than twenty books of poetry between 1956 and his death in early 2014. He was a naturalized citizen of Mexico, country where he arrived as a political exile of the Military Junta.
Estrella del Valle is a Mexican poet. She was born in Córdoba, Veracruz, in 1971 and studied creative writing at the Writer's General Society of Mexico.
Aurora de Albornoz was born in Luarca, Asturias, Spain. As a youth, she lived in Luarca with her parents, sister, and extended family, throughout the Spanish Civil War from 1936 to 1939— an event that inspired her later poetry.
The Premio Adonáis, or Adonais Prize for Poetry, is awarded annually in Spain by Ediciones RIALP to an unpublished Spanish language poem. Runners-up are also recognized.
Soledad Fariña Vicuña is a Chilean poet.
Alberto Blanco is a Mexican poet. Born in Mexico City, he spent his childhood and adolescence in that city, and he studied chemistry at the Universidad Iberoamericana and philosophy at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. For two years, he pursued a master's degree in Asian Studies, specializing in China, at El Colegio de México.1 Blanco was first published in a journal in 1970. He was co-editor and designer of the poetry journal El Zaguan (1975–1977), and a grant recipient of the Centro Mexicano de Escritores, el Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes, and the Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes. In 1991 he received a grant from the Fulbright Program as a poet-in-residence at the University of California, Irvine; and, in 1992, he was awarded a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation. He was admitted into the Sistema Nacional de Creadores in 1994, for which he has also been a juror. In 2001 he received the Octavio Paz Grant for Poetry, and in 2008, he was awarded a grant from the Guggenheim Foundation. He remains a member of the Sistema Nacional de Creadores.
Fernando Cabrera is a Dominican-American poet, essayist, visual artist, songwriter and professor. He is a National Poetry and Literary Essay Prize Winner.
Consuelo Hernández is a Colombian American poet, scholar, literary critic and associate professor of Latin American studies at American University since 1995.
Julio Torri Maynes was a Mexican writer and teacher who formed part of the Ateneo de la Juventud (1909–1914). He wrote mainly in the essay form, although his limited production included short stories and scholarly works as well. Considered one of the best prose stylists of Latin America, he was admitted to the Academia Mexicana de la Lengua in 1952. His parents were Julio S. Torri and Sofía Maynes de Torri.
Eduardo Anguita Cuéllar was a Chilean poet, who was awarded the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 1988.
Beatriz Villacañas is a poet, essayist and literary critic.
Juan Antonio Villacañas was a Spanish poet, essayist and critic. In 2015, he was named distinguished son of the city of Toledo.
Manuel Mantero is a Spanish professor and writer. In 1969, Mantero moved to the United States and continued his work as a professor.
Juana Rosa Pita is a poet, writer, editor and translator. She was born in Havana on December 8, 1939. She left Cuba in 1961. Since then she has lived in many cities, including Washington, Caracas, Madrid, New Orleans, Miami, and Boston, where she currently resides. From 1989 to 1992 she was Visiting Professor at Tulane University. She is considered one of the most important contemporary Cuban and Latin American poets. The late Nicaraguan poet Pablo Antonio Cuadra hailed her as "one of the outstanding voices of Cuba’s pilgrim culture. Book after book Juana Rosa Pita has been creating a mysterious realm of love and prophecy: an island of enchantment where words restore all that hatred turned to ashes."
Vilma Reyes Díaz is a Puerto Rican poet, storyteller and educator. She has served as a teacher of Spanish language and has chaired the International Poetry Festival in Puerto Rico since 2010. She has been an influence on young Puerto Ricans in literary creation by offering free workshops for children and youth poetry and has published several books as a result of that work.

Luis Aguilar Martínez was a Mexican poet, essayist, narrator, and translator. He was the author of Debe ser ya noviembre, Muchachos que no besan en la boca, Libre de sospecha: Antología boreal and Los ojos ya deshechos, among other books.
