Francisco Soler Valero

Francisco Soler Valero was a lawyer and Spanish politician.

Married with two children, Soler held a doctorate in law and was a practising lawyer. He served under the Franco government as one of the Deputy directors in the Education ministry. [1] In 1975 he became Economic and Administrative Director of the Francoist Movement's Press. [2]

After the restoration of democracy in the mid 1970s he joined the newly formed Union of the Democratic Centre (UCD) and in 1977 he was elected to the Spanish Congress of Deputies representing Almería Province. He was re-elected in 1979 as the second placed candidate on the UCD list. [3] As a leading figure in the Almeria provincial branch of the UCD, he explored the possibility of Almeria forming an autonomous community with the Region of Murcia however nothing came of this proposal. [4]

As a result of internal party divisions he resigned from the UCD in 1982 and, along with three other former UCD deputies, joined the Popular Alliance, being re-elected as an AP deputy at the 1982 election. [5] He did not stand at the 1986 election.

Union of the Centre and Christian Democracy of Catalonia was an electoral coalition formed in Catalonia in December 1976 to contest the Spanish Congress of Deputies election of 1977, the first democratic election to be held in Spain since the Second Spanish Republic. It was formed by the Catalan Centre (CC) and the historic Democratic Union of Catalonia (UDC), and came to be supported by the Christian Democratic Team of the Spanish State, which did not run on its own in Catalonia. The coalition was officially registered on 3 May 1977. A referendum on the initiative of the Andalusian autonomy process was held in Andalusia on Thursday, 28 February 1980. Voters were asked whether they ratified a proposed initiative for the provinces of Almería, Cádiz, Córdoba, Granada, Huelva, Jaén, Málaga and Seville to organize themselves into an autonomous community of Spain throughout the legal procedure outlined in Article 151 of the Spanish Constitution of 1978.
