Francisco Villarroel (born May 5, 1965) is a Venezuelan lawyer, writer, screenwriter and filmmaker. He is best known for the 2019 film Two Autumns in Paris, which is the adaptation of his novel of the same name published in 2007. [1] [2]

Biography

Francisco Villarroel graduated as a lawyer from Santa Maria University, carrying out postgraduate and master's degree studies in France and Malta. He is a Doctor and Emeritus Professor at the Universidad Marítima del Caribe. For more than thirty (30) years he dedicated himself to the practice of law and university education publishing books on maritime law and international law. [3] [4] He was President of the Venezuelan Maritime Law Association and Titular Member of the International Maritime Committee. [5] [6]

In 2007, he published his first novel that was made into a film, Two Autumns in Paris in 2019, which was followed by his second novel, Tango Bar, published in 2018 that was made into a film with the same name in 2024. As an actor, screenwriter and film producer, he has made films that have been adapted from his novels. In 2017, he founded MOB Producciones. [7] [8] [9]

In 2020, he directed his first film, Webidemic, whose original script he also wrote. [10]

He is the Director of the Caracas Ibero-American Film Festival. [11]

Two Autumns in París is a 2019 Venezuelan-Canadian drama film directed by Gibelys Coronado, based on a novel of the same name by writer Francisco Villarroel.

Martyr is the second feature film by Lebanese writer and director Mazen Khaled. The film was selected for screening at the 74th Venice International Film Festival in the Biennale College - Cinema section, where it was nominated for the Queer Lion award, and at the 2018 SXSW in the Global section. Martyr was produced by Diala Kachmar of Artrip Production and is distributed in North America by Breaking Glass Pictures and in the UK by Peccadillo Pictures. Martyr was described by Indiewire as "One of the most under-appreciated films of 2018". It features a large ensemble cast led by Carol Abboud, Hamza Mekdad, and Moustafa Fahs.

La Soledad is a 2016 drama film and the directorial debut of Venezuelan filmmaker Jorge Thielen Armand. It premiered in the 73rd Venice International Film Festival. The production received the financial support of The Venice Biennale College and it is a co-production between Venezuela, Canada and Italy.

Jorge Thielen Armand is a film director, screenwriter and producer. He studied communications at Concordia University in Montreal, and later, with Rodrigo Michelangeli, founded the Canadian-Venezuelan film production company La Faena Films. He has directed two feature films, La Soledad and La Fortaleza, and the short film Flor de la Mar. All three films have received positive reviews from critics.

La Faena Films is a film production company founded in 2015, by the Venezuelan filmmakers Jorge Thielen Armand and Rodrigo Michelangeli. It operates both in Toronto and Caracas.

José Antonio Quintero Oliveros is a publicist, former professional soccer referee and sports executive. He is currently vice president of the Federación Venezolana de Fútbol (FVF).

Tango Bar is a 2024 film by Venezuelan director Gibelys Coronado, based on a novel of the same name by Francisco Villarroel, with cinematography by César Bolívar.
