Frank Newfeld FGDC is a book designer, illustrator, art director and educator.
Newfeld is arguably the greatest book designer of the 20th century in Canada. He has designed over 650 books and won more than 170 international awards. He is a former Vice-President of Publishing at McClelland & Stewart, Head of the Illustration Program at Sheridan College and Co-founder/President of the Society of Typographic Designers of Canada (now the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada - GDC).
He is a Fellow of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada, and a member of the Royal Canadian Academy. in 2015, Newfeld was appointed to the Order of Canada.
Newfeld has created three children’s books, two of them published by Oxford University Press and one by Groundwood Books (Douglas & McIntyre). In 2008 his book 'Drawing on Type' was published by Porcupine's Quill. He is also known for his great illustrations in the best selling children's book Alligator Pie.

Graphic design is the profession and academic discipline whose activity consists in projecting visual communications intended to transmit specific messages to social groups, with specific objectives. As opposed to art, whose aim is merely contemplation, design is based on the principle of "form follows a specific function".

The Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC) is Canadaʼs national certification body for graphic and communication design and since 1956 has established standards for design professionals, educators, and leaders. GDC licenses and certifies members whose services the standardized criteria. GDC was Canada’s first distinct group to professionalize graphic design as a distinct field.
Alligator Pie, first published in 1974, is a book of children's poetry written by Dennis Lee and illustrated by Frank Newfeld. It won the Book of the Year award from the Canadian Library Association in 1975. The book had multiple adaptations and led to Lee being named "Canada's Father Goose".
The Graphex National Design Awards is a biennial competition in Canada to celebrate and showcase the best examples of visual communication design. The Association of Registered Graphic Designers ('RGD or simply RGD; formerly ARGD/ON is a non-profit, self-regulatoryprofessional design association with over 3,000 members. Willow Dawson is a Canadian cartoonist and illustrator, whose works include «The Big Green Book of the Big Blue Sea» with author Helaine Becker, «Hyena in Petticoats: The Story of Suffragette Nellie McClung», «Lila and Ecco's Do-It-Yourself Comics Club», 100 Mile House, the graphic novel «No Girls Allowed», with author Susan Hughes, and «Violet Miranda: Girl Pirate», with author Emily Pohl-Weary. Her works have been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Council.
Broken Pencil has called her black and white art style wonderful, bold and full of thought. Dawson also creates painted stand-alone illustrations which she turns into prints and sells on her Society6 site. The original art is created using acrylic ink and paint on recycled cardboard. Her illustrations convey a mood of whimsy and playful-uncanny. Her work typically exhibits flowing linework and favors a 50's color palette.

Dawson was born in 1975 and grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia. She currently lives in a creaky-old-house-turned-music-school in downtown Toronto.
