Frank Scholze (born March 6, 1968) is a German librarian. Since January 2020 he serves as the Director General of the German National Library.

Education and career

Scholze studied library and information science at the Stuttgart Media University, as well as art history and English literature at the University of Stuttgart. He started his professional career at the University of Stuttgart Library where he worked as project manager in various projects on digital libraries. Later he also worked there as a subject specialist and Head of the Public Services Department. After serving for two years at the Ministry of Science research and The Arts Baden-Württemberg he was appointed Librarian of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in January 2010. In 2016 he was elected to the Board of the German Library Association (dbv) and re-elected for a second term of office in 2019. [1]

In April 2019 the State Minister for Culture and Media announced that Scholze will succeed Elisabeth Niggemann as Director General of the German National Library in January 2020. [2]

Scholze is one of the editors of Zeitschrift für Bibliothekswesen und Bibliographie. [3]

The Library of Conservatism is a specialized scientific library and think tank in Berlin. Its focus is non-fiction literature by conservative, right-wing and libertarian authors from the 18th to the early 21st century. The principal foundation for the library was laid by the writer and publicist Caspar von Schrenck-Notzing who gave his extensive private collection of books. The BdK opened in 2012 in Berlin. By 2019 its catalogued stock comprised more than 30,000 items. The library is financed and supported by the Foundation for Conservative Education and Research.

Elly Lotte Bergtel-Schleif, née Schleif, was a German librarian who was actively involved in the resistance against Nazis while a member of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). Bergtel-Schleif became head of the Berlin Library School after the war.

The Bavarian Library Network is a library association of more than 150 academic libraries in Bavaria, Germany. It operates a union catalog, the Bavarian Union Catalog. The catalog is not part of K10plus.

The Association of German Librarians, also known by its German initialism VDB, represents the professional interests of academic librarians and works to promote academic books and libraries. It was founded in 1900, re-founded in 1948 (Munich) and is the oldest librarian association in Germany. The association has more than 1753 members (2020) who are employed in academic library service - or are being trained for it - or who are close to and represent the goals of the association. The office rotates with the respective board and, with the election of library director Anke Berghaus-Sprengel, has been located in Halle (Saale) at the University and State Library of Saxony-Anhalt since August 1, 2021.
