Franz Ceska (born 31 January 1936 in Vienna) is an Austrian diplomat. He was Ambassador to Belgium from 1982 to 1988, Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva from 1988 to 1991, Secretary General of the Federation of Austrian Industry from 1992 to 1997, and Ambassador to France from 1997 to 2001. Ceska studied law at the University of Vienna, earning a doctorate. He subsequently attended the College of Europe in Bruges from 1958 to 1959, [2] and immediately afterwards joined the Foreign Ministry.
Ursula Plassnik is an Austrian diplomat and politician. She was Foreign Minister of Austria between October 2004 and December 2008. She is currently Austrian ambassador to Switzerland (2016-).
The College of Europe is a postgraduate institute of European studies with its main campus in Bruges, Belgium, and a smaller campus in Warsaw, Poland. The College of Europe in Bruges was founded in 1949 by leading historical European figures and founding fathers of the European Union, including Salvador de Madariaga, Winston Churchill, Paul-Henri Spaak and Alcide De Gasperi as one of the results of the 1948 Congress of Europe in The Hague to promote "a spirit of solidarity and mutual understanding between all the nations of Western Europe and to provide elite training to individuals who will uphold these values" and "to train an elite of young executives for Europe". The founders imagined the college as a place where Europe's future leaders could live and study together. It has the status of "Institution of Public Interest", operating according to Belgian law. The second campus in Natolin (Warsaw), Poland was opened in 1992. The College of Europe is historically linked to the establishment of the European Union and its predecessors, and to the creation of the European Movement International, of which the college is a supporting member. Federica Mogherini, former High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, was appointed as the Rector to start in September 2020; former President of the European Council Herman, Count Van Rompuy is chairman of the board.
Otto Martin von der Gablentz was a German diplomat. He was ambassador to the Netherlands between 1983 and 1990, ambassador to Israel from 1990 to 1993 and between 1993 and 1995 was ambassador to the Russian Federation. He served as Rector of the College of Europe from 1996 until 2001.
Christine Stix-Hackl, Austrian jurist, Advocate General at the European Court of Justice from 2000 to 2006. Dr. Christine Stix-Hackl has been the second woman in the history of the European Court of Justice to take the position as Premier Avocat général in 2005. She was the Austrian Ambassador in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg between 2007 and 2012. Ambassador Dr. Christine Stix-Hackl now presents her credentials Permanent Representative of Austria to the United Nations (Vienna), IAEA, UNIDO and CTBTO since June 2012.
Philipp Jenninger was a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union and diplomat. He was the President of the Bundestag from 1984 to 1988. He also served as Member of the German Parliament, the Bundestag (1969–1990), Minister of State at the German Chancellery (1982–1984), German Ambassador to Austria (1991–1995) and German Ambassador to the Holy See (1995–1997).
