Freddie Owens (born October 31, 1981) is an American men's basketball coach, who was the interim head coach for the Green Bay Phoenix. [1] During his nine years as a coach, he has been a part of four championships and NCAA teams at the University of Montana (2010, 2012 and 2013) and the College of the Holy Cross (2016).
During his collegiate career as a student-athlete at the University of Wisconsin, the Badgers won three Big Ten championships. In the 2001-02 season, Wisconsin shared the Big Ten regular season title while finishing with a 19-13 overall record and appearing in the second round of the NCAA tournament. [2] The 2002-03 season concluded with Wisconsin winning back to back regular season Big Ten titles while finishing 24-8 overall and making an appearance in the NCAA "Sweet Sixteen" on a game winning 3 pointer made by Owens. [3] In the 2003-04 season, Wisconsin finished the season with a 25-7 overall while winning the Big Ten tournament championship and making an appearance in the NCAA second round. [4]
During 2015-16 season, Owens' first season of staff, Holy Cross won the Patriot League Tournament championship after finishing 9th in the regular season conference standings. [5] Entering the Patriot League tournament as the 9th seed, Holy Cross went on the win four straight road games over 8th seeded Loyola (MD), 1 seeded Bucknell, 4th seeded Army and 2nd seeded Lehigh. Holy Cross was the lowest seed to ever win the Patriot League tournament.
While at Montana, Owens helped the Grizzlies to two regular season Big Sky championships and three Big Sky tournament championships while appearing in three NCAA tournaments. Montana compiled an impressive 93-35 overall record in his four years on staff. The 2011-12 season saw Montana finish with a 15-1 league record and a Big Sky regular and tournament championship. [6] In the 2012-13 season, Montana finished with a 19-1 Big Sky Conference record while winning back to back regular season and tournament championships. [7] While on staff, Montana averaged 23 wins per season from 2009-2013 and made four straight post season appearances.

The Wisconsin Badgers are the athletic teams representing the University of Wisconsin–Madison. They compete as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level, primarily competing in the Big Ten Conference for all sports since the 1896–97 season. William Francis "Bo" Ryan Jr. is an American former college basketball coach. He was the head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball team of the University of Wisconsin–Madison from 2001 to December 2015. Ryan served as the head men's basketball coach at the University of Wisconsin–Platteville from 1984 to 1999 and at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee from 1999 to 2001. His overall collegiate coaching record was 747–233. Ryan was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017.
Matthew Curtis Painter is an American basketball coach and former player, who is the current and 19th head coach of the Purdue Boilermakers, serving in that role since 2005. He played college basketball at Purdue from 1989 to 1993. He was also the head coach of the Southern Illinois Salukis from 2003 to 2004.
The Michigan State Spartans men's basketball team is the intercollegiate men's basketball program representing Michigan State University. The 2008 Patriot League men's basketball tournament, a part of the 2007-08 NCAA Division I men's basketball season, took place March 5, 2008, as a single-elimination tournament, with games being played at the higher seeds' home courts. The American University Eagles won the league's regular season, and received the number one seed in the tournament. They kept their home advantage throughout the tournament and defeated Colgate, 52–46, on March 14, 2008, to win the conference tournament and received the Patriot League's automatic bid for the 2008 NCAA tournament.

The university has a rich volleyball tradition, with origins dating back to 1974. They won a national title in 2021. They have had eleven head coaches since the team's inception. In the 2021 season, they ranked second in attendance among all Division 1 volleyball programs, averaging 7,540 fans over 15 regular season matches.

The men's rowing team is part of the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges. Of its 27 varsity teams, Holy Cross supports 13 men's and 14 women's sports, giving Holy Cross the largest ratio of teams-per-enrollment in the country. Holy Cross's athletic teams for both men and women are known as the Crusaders.

The head coach was Bo Ryan, coaching his sixth season with the Badgers. The team played their home games at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin as a member of the Big Ten Conference. The Badgers finished the season 30–6, 13–3 in Big Ten play to finish in second place. They lost in the Big Ten tournament championship to Ohio State. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as a No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region. In the First Round, they defeated Texas A&M–Corpus Christi before being upset by No. 7-seeded UNLV in the Second Round.

The 2015–16 Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball team represented the University of Wisconsin–Madison in the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. This was Bo Ryan's 15th season as head coach at Wisconsin, before he resigned 12 games into the season. On December 15, 2015, Ryan announced he would retire effective immediately leaving associate head coach Greg Gard as interim head coach. The team played their home games at the Kohl Center and were members of the Big Ten Conference. They finished the season 22–13, 12–6 in Big Ten play to finish in a four-way tie for third place in conference. Shortly after the regular season, Greg Gard had the interim tag removed as he was announced as the permanent head coach. The Badgers were upset by Nebraska in the second round of the Big Ten tournament. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, their 18th straight appearance in the Tournament. They defeated Pittsburgh and Xavier to advance to the Sweet Sixteen for the third consecutive year. In the Sweet Sixteen, they lost to Notre Dame.

The team received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, its 19th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, as a No. 8 seed in the East region. The Badgers defeated Virginia Tech in the First Round and upset No. 1 overall seed and defending National Champion Villanova to advance to the Sweet Sixteen for the fourth consecutive year. In the Sweet Sixteen, they lost to 20th-ranked Florida on a last second 3.
The 2017 Indiana Hoosiers men's soccer team was the represented Indiana University during the 2017 NCAA Division I men's soccer season. It was the Hoosiers' 45th season of varsity college soccer, and their 27th season in the Big Ten Conference.
The 1993–94 Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball team represented the University of Wisconsin–Madison as a member of the Big Ten Conference during the 1993–94 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Head coach Stu Jackson completed his second and final season coaching the Badgers. The team played its home games in Madison, Wisconsin at the Wisconsin Field House. Wisconsin finished the season 18-11, 8-10 in Big Ten play to finish in seventh place. The Badgers earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as a No. 9 seed in the West Region, defeating No. 8 seed Cincinnati before losing to No. 1 seed Missouri in the Round of 32.
The 2021 NCAA Division I women's volleyball tournament began on December 2, 2021, and ended on December 18, 2021, to determine the Division I National Champion in women's volleyball. Wisconsin won its first NCAA national championship by defeating Big Ten rival Nebraska 3–2. The championship match was played in front of an NCAA record crowd of 18,755.
The 2022–23 Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball team represented the University of Wisconsin–Madison in the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Badgers were led by eighth-year head coach Greg Gard and played their home games at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin as members of the Big Ten Conference. They finished the regular season 17–13, 9–11 in Big Ten play to finish in a tie for 11th place. As the No. 12 seed in the Big Ten tournament, they lost to Ohio State in the first round. They received an at-large bid to the National Invitation Tournament where they defeated Bradley, Liberty, and Oregon to advance to the tournament semifinals. There they lost to eventual champion North Texas.
