Brian Timpone is an American conservative businessman and former journalist who operates a network of nearly 1,300 conservative local news websites. In 2012, Timpone stated that articles on his websites are partially written by freelancers outside of the United States, although he described the writing as "domestic" in a separate interview. According to The New York Times, Timpone's "operation is rooted in deception, eschewing hallmarks of news reporting like fairness and transparency." His sites publish articles for pay from outside groups, and do not disclose it.
The Open Notebook(TON) is a science journalism non-profit organization, online magazine, and publisher. Its purpose is to help science journalists improve their skills. It publishes articles and interviews on the craft of science writing and maintains a database of successful pitch letters to editors. TON also runs a paid fellowship program for early-career science journalists. The Open Notebook is supported by foundation grants and individual donations, and also partners with journalism and science communication organizations.
Alphabet Workers Union (AWU), also informally referred to as the Google Union, is a trade union of workers employed at Alphabet Inc., Google's parent company, with a membership of over 700. It was announced on January 4, 2021 with an initial membership of over 400, after over a year of secret organizing, and it includes all types of workers at Alphabet, including full-time, temporary, vendors and contractors of all job types. It has been called a minority union and a solidarity union, and is not registered with the National Labor Relations Board. It is part of the Campaign to Organize Digital Employees, an effort to organize unions at tech companies, and affiliated with the Communications Workers of America, a larger trade union.
The Campaign to Organize Digital Employees or CODE-CWA is a project launched by Communications Workers of America to unionize tech and video game workers in January 2020. It sprung out of conversations with Game Workers Unite and organized at least two full time staff, including GWU co-founder Emma Kinema and Wes McEnany.
