Future Generation Art Prize

The Future Generation Art Prize is a biannual global contemporary art prize with the aim to discover, recognize and give long-term support to young artists. The prize was established by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation in 2009. The winner is awarded a total of $100,000 (2019), including a cash prize of $60,000 and $40,000 towards the production of new work. History

On December 8, 2009, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation announced the establishment of the Future Generation Art Prize, a new large-scale international competition for artists up to 35 years old, with the PinchukArtCentre acting as the organizer. On June 29, 2010, seven members of the Selection Committee featuring competent and global art-professionals, selected 20 artists from more than 6,000 applications coming from 125 countries and divided over all continents. Every two years (with an edition skipping a year in 2016), the PinchukArtCentre holds an exhibition of artists under 35 from around the globe and awards a grand prize. Alongside the central exhibition held at the PinhukArtCentre, the show travels to Venice, Italy as an official collateral event of the Venice Biennale.

It is the architecture section under the overall Venice Biennale and was officially established in 1980, even though architecture had been a part of the Venice Art Biennale since 1968.

The 57th Venice Biennale was an international contemporary art exhibition held between May and November 2017. The Venice Biennale takes place biennially in Venice, Italy. Artistic director Christine Macel, the chief curator at the Centre Pompidou, curated its central exhibition, "Viva Arte Viva", as a series of interconnected pavilions designed to reflect art's capacity for expanding humanism. The curator also organized a project, "Unpacking My Library", based on a Walter Benjamin essay, to list artists' favorite books. Macel was the first French director since 1995 and the fourth woman to direct the Biennale. A trend of presenting overlooked, rediscovered, or "emerging dead artists" was a theme of the 57th Biennale.

Taus Makhacheva is a Russian artist based in Moscow. She is the granddaughter of Rasul Gamzatov – Avar poet, author, journalist and political activist. Taus Makhacheva included in the list of the Best contemporary Russian artists (ARTEEX), and also in the Russian Investment Art Rating 49ART.

Cinthia Marcelle was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil in 1974. She is a Brazilian multimedia artist focusing in photography, video, and installation work. She studied at the Universitadad Federal de Minas Gerais.

Vajiko Chachkhiani is a Georgian artist whose work mostly involves film, sculpture, photography and visual installations. Currently he lives and works in Berlin, Germany and Tbilisi, Georgia. Chachkhiani's work has been shown at the Venice Biennale.
