Fatima Mereles (born 26 May 1953) is a botanist and academic from Paraguay, who specialises in wetland flora.
María Fátima Mereles Haydar was born on 26 May 1953 in Asunción. [1] [2] She studied for an undergraduate degree in Biology at the National University of Asunción. [2] She studied for a PhD at the University of Geneva and graduated in 1998. [1] [2] She is Director of the Department of Biology at National University of Asunción. [2] She assumed leadership of CONACYT, Paraguay's National Council for Science and Technology, in 2009. [1] [2] She is also Secretary General of UNESCO's Man & Biosphere National Committee for Paraguay. [3]
Mereles' main area of research focuses on Spermatophytes. [4] She specialises in the flora of wetland areas of Paraguay, such as the Cerrado and the Gran Chaco. [1] She has published over one hundred articles, [1] as well as naming four new plant species: Eleocharis canindeyuensis; [5] Eleocharis grandirostris; [6] Eleocharis grossimucronata; [7] Eleocharis occidentalis. [8]
In 2020 Mereles was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Universidad Autónoma de Encarnación to recognise her achievements in "national and international scientific research and development". [9]

Club Presidente Hayes is a Paraguayan association football club from Tacumbú, a section of Asunción, Paraguay. The club is also known colloquially by its nicknames The Yankees and The Little Star. Football is by far the most popular sport in Paraguay. Paraguay's national team has played at eight FIFA World Cup competitions and has won two Copa América tournaments. Olimpia Asunción is the country's most successful club in domestic and international competitions. Paraguay's football leagues are divided into four divisions. Miss Grand Paraguay is an annual female beauty pageant based in Asunción of Paraguay, founded in 2017 by Gabriel Roman of MGM Productions, aiming to select the country representatives to compete in various international pageants including its parent pageant, Miss Grand International, in which Paraguay won the main title once in 2018, by Clara Sosa of Asunción, and was placed among the Top 20 semifinalists three times in 2017, 2019 and 2022 by Lía Ashmore, Milena Rodríguez and Agatha León, respectively.
Miss Grand Paraguay 2019 was the 3rd edition of the Miss Grand Paraguay pageant, held on July 29, 2019, at the Marshal Convention Center, Asunción. Sixteen national aspirants either chosen through regional pageant or central casting competed for the title, of whom the representative of Itapúa, Milena Rodríguez, was named the winner. She later represented Paraguay at the Miss Grand International 2019 pageant in Venezuela, was placed among the top 20 finalists.
