Gabisile Hlumbane is a South African women's footballer and plays as a midfielder. She plays for Kovsies Ladies. [1] She represented the South Africa women's national football team at the 2012 London Olympics. [2]

Early career

Hlumbane was born in KwaThema, Gauteng. She started playing soccer at the age of 11 for KwaThema Ladies. Her father bought soccer boots and watched her play regularly while her mother didn't like the fact that she played soccer. [3]

Club career

She joined Kovsies Ladies in 2005 after being named the Gauteng Schools Sports Girl of the Year in 2004 for scoring 8 goals in a tournament. She was recruited by the chairwoman of women's football, Nomsa Mahlangu. At the University of Free State she studied municipal financial management, she was also the captain and teammate of the late Eudy Simelane who nicknamed her China for her small eyes. In 2011, she was named the University of Free State Sportswoman of the Year, the first black person to achieve the feat and was also nominated for Free State Sportswoman of the Year. [3]

KwaThema Place in Gauteng, South Africa

KwaThema is a township south-west of Springs in the district of Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, South Africa. It was established in 1951 when Africans were resettled from Payneville because it was considered by the apartheid government to be too close to a white town. The new township's layout was designed along modernist principles and became a model for many subsequent townships, although the envisaged social facilities were not implemented. The typical South African township house, the 51/9, was one of the plans developed for KwaThema. A black local authority with municipal status was established in 1984. In 1985 KwaThema experienced violent unrest and right-wing vigilante activity.

On 16 March 2020, Cricket South Africa suspended all cricket in the country for 60 days due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2019–20 CSA Provincial T20 Cup was a domestic Twenty cricket tournament that took place in South Africa in September 2019, as a curtain-raiser to the 2019–20 South African domestic season. It was played between the thirteen South African provincial teams, along with Limpopo and Mpumalanga. This was the sixth edition of the CSA Provincial T20 Cup, which was last played in the 2015–16 season. With only domestic teams from South Africa taking part, the tournament returned in place of the Africa T20 Cup, which had been held since 2015.
