Palms is a community in the Westside region of Los Angeles,California,founded in 1886 and the oldest neighborhood annexed to the city,in 1915. The Coachella Valley is an arid rift valley in the Colorado Desert of Southern California in Riverside County. The valley has been referred to as Greater Palm Springs and occasionally the Palm Springs Area due to the historic prominence of the city of Palm Springs. The valley extends approximately 45 mi (72 km) southeast from the San Gorgonio Pass to the northern shore of the Salton Sea and the neighboring Imperial Valley,and is approximately 15 mi (24 km) wide along most of its length. Juan Gabriel Castro,is a Mexican professional baseball coach and former infielder,who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Los Angeles Dodgers,Cincinnati Reds,Minnesota Twins,Baltimore Orioles,and Philadelphia Phillies,during his 17-year big league career. Castro was known mainly for his defensive abilities. He was primarily a reserve player. Castro batted and threw right-handed. Following his retirement as a player,Castro joined the Dodgers organization as a coach. During the 2020 and 2021 seasons,Castro was the infield coach for the Phillies.

The Palm Desert Coyotes are an independent professional baseball team that is based in Palm Springs,California as a part of the California Winter League. They play their games in a short-season schedule from January to February at Palm Springs Stadium and at the nearby Palm Springs High School baseball field,along with the Palm Springs Chill,Canada A's and Coachella Valley Snowbirds and several other teams. The Coyotes didn't play in 2012 due to a team suspension of operations. They were replaced by the winter league version of the Palm Springs Power. The Coyotes returned in 2013.

The SCCBL League Champion represents the league annually at the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita,Kansas. The 2012 SCCBA champions are the Palm Springs POWER of Palm Springs,California,the most successful team to date,by defeating the East L.A. Dodgers. The Power was the Pacific Southwest Baseball League (PSWBL) champions in 2009.
