Francisco Solano López Carrillo was a Paraguayan military officer, politician and statesman who served as President of Paraguay between 1862 and 1870, of which he served mostly during the Paraguayan War (1864–1870). He succeeded his father Carlos Antonio López as the second president of Paraguay. Solano López is the only Paraguayan ruler to have been killed in action. He is one of only two Paraguayans to have received the rank of Marshal, along with José Félix Estigarribia.

Andrés Felipe Solano is a Colombian novelist who published Sálvame, Joe Louis (2010); Los hermanos Cuervo (2012) and Salario Mínimo-Vivir con nada (2016), a long-form essay about his experience as a factory worker living on the minimum wage for six months in Medellín, Colombia, where he rented a room in a notoriously violent neighborhood. A previous version of this piece was chosen as the finalist for the prize awarded by the Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano, chaired by Gabriel García Márquez in 2008. The Bahía Solano Fault, Utría Fault or Utría-Bahía Solano Fault is a westward dipping thrust fault in the department of Chocó on the Pacific Coast of Colombia. The fault has a total length of 290.6 kilometres (180.6 mi) and runs along an average north–south strike of 347 ± 13 from the Panama-Colombia border to Bajo Baudó. The fault is partly offshore in the bays of Solano and Utría and crosses the Chocó Basin and the coastal Serranía del Baudó. Movement of the fault produced the Mw 6.5 1970 Bahía Solano earthquake.
Carlos de Dios Murias, OFM Conv. and his two companions Gabriel Longueville and Wenceslao Pedernera were two priests and a married man who were killed in the La Rioja province in Argentina. Murias was a professed member from the Order of Friars Minor Conventual and Longueville was a priest incardinated in the Viviers diocese in France before moving to Argentina where he was incardinated into the La Rioja diocese. The two worked together in a La Rioja parish before their deaths while Pedernera, who served as a lay catechist, was married with three daughters and was slain in front of them.
