Gabriele Andretta (born 7 March 1961) is a German politician for the populist Social Democratic Party (SPD) and since 2017 President of the Landtag of Lower Saxony.
Andretta was born in the Western German town of Murbach and studied social sciences and economics at the University of Göttingen. [1]
In 1985, Andretta entered the SPD and served in leading functions in the regional group of Hanover. Since 1998 Andretta has been a member of the Landtag of Lower Saxony, the federal diet of Lower Saxony; she became President of the parliament in 2017. [2]
The 1998 Lower Saxony state election was held on 1 March 1998 to elect the members of the 14th Landtag of Lower Saxony. The incumbent Social Democratic Party (SPD) government led by Minister-President Gerhard Schröder was returned with an increased majority. Schröder was subsequently re-elected as minister-president.

The Politics of Lower Saxony takes place within a framework of a federal parliamentary representative democratic republic, where the Federal Government of Germany exercises sovereign rights with certain powers reserved to the states of Germany including Lower Saxony.
