Gaferut Atoll is an outlying atoll in the State of Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia. The northernmost of the eastern group of islands of Yap, it is located 100 kilometers northeast of Faraulep and 790 kilometers east of Yap island.

Gaferut is called Fayo by the people of the neighboring atolls, which means stone or rock in the Woleaian language. It belongs to the Faraulep people. [1]

The island is 500 meters (1500 feet) long and 150 meters (500 feet) wide, and less than 10 hectares in area. It lies in the southeast of a reef that is 1.5 km long and one kilometer wide.

The vegetation consists of Tournefortia argentea and Cocos nucifera. [2]

The primary islets of Ifalik are called Ella, Elangelap, Rawaii, and Falalop, which is the atoll's main island.

Faraulep island

Faraulep Atoll is a coral atoll of three islands in the central Caroline Islands in the Pacific Ocean, and forms a legislative district in Yap State in the Federated States of Micronesia. Its total land area is only 0.422 square kilometres (0.163 sq mi), but it encloses a deep central lagoon of 7 square kilometres (2.7 sq mi) with a single opening on the southwest side. Faraulep is located approximately 100 kilometres (62 mi) southwest of Gaferut, 150 kilometres (93 mi) northeast of Woleai, and 700 kilometres (430 mi) east of Yap.

Typhoon Sudal Pacific typhoon in 2004

Typhoon Sudal, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Cosme, was the strongest typhoon to strike the island of Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) in about 50 years. Yap is one of the four administrative divisions of the FSM. The entire island, only 17 km (11 mi) in length, experienced typhoon force winds, and 90% of the structures were damaged or destroyed. Damage was most severe in southeastern Yap, where the eyewall struck and winds exceeded 185 km/h (115 mph), but the center of the typhoon passed south of the island.

Olimarao atoll in Micronesia

Olimarao Atoll is an uninhabited atoll with a land area of 0.2 km2 in the State of Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia. It is located 36 kilometers northwest of Elato and 860 kilometers southeast of Yap island. Olimarao belongs administratively to Elato.

Piagailoe atoll

Piagailoe Atoll is an uninhabited atoll in the State of Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia, geographically part of the Caroline Islands. It is located 71 kilometers northeast of Lamotrek, 71 kilometers northwest of Satawal and 945 kilometers southeast of Yap island. This atoll lies at the western end of a chain of submarine mountains that extend westwards of the Gray Feather Bank for about 180 km. The Condor Reef, Pikelot and the Oraitilipu Bank belong to this underwater feature as well. In order to distinguish this atoll from Fayu Atoll in Chuuk State, located about 500 km to the east, this atoll is also known as West Fayu.

Fayu Atoll island group

Fayu Atoll is an uninhabited atoll in the state of Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. It is located 36 km to the west of Nomwin Atoll and 104 km north of Chuuk Lagoon.

Dhuvaafaru is an inhabited island of Maldives located in the eastern edge of Raa Atoll. Resettlement of the island started on 14 December 2008 to inhabit the displaced residents of Kandholhudhoo who were the victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami.
