Gail Krantzberg is a Professor of Engineering and Public Policy at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. [1] Her research has focused on plastic pollution in the Great Lakes, [2] and includes detecting COVID19 in municipal water supplies. [3] In 2001 she was selected to be the director of the International Joint Commission's Great Lakes Office in Windsor, Ontario, [4] a post she held until 2005. In 2021, it was announced that she would co-chair the IJC's Science Priority Committee. [5]

Lake of the Woods Lake on the United States–Canada border

Lake of the Woods is a lake occupying parts of the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba and the U.S. state of Minnesota. It separates a small land area of Minnesota from the rest of the United States. The Northwest Angle and the town of Angle Township can be reached from the rest of Minnesota only by crossing the lake or by traveling through Canada. The Northwest Angle is the northernmost part of the contiguous United States. Its "northwesternmost point" served as a problematic landmark in treaties defining the international border.

International Joint Commission

The International Joint Commission is a bi-national organization established by the governments of the United States and Canada under the Boundary Waters Treaty of 1909. Its responsibilities were expanded with the signing of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement of 1972. The commission deals with issues affecting the extensive waters and waterways along the Canada–United States border.

Experimental Lakes Area

IISD Experimental Lakes Area is an internationally unique research station encompassing 58 formerly pristine freshwater lakes in Kenora District Ontario, Canada. Previously run by Fisheries and Oceans Canada, after being de-funded by the Canadian Federal Government, the facility is now managed and operated by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and has a mandate to investigate the aquatic effects of a wide variety of stresses on lakes and their catchments. IISD-ELA uses the whole ecosystem approach and makes long-term, whole-lake investigations of freshwater focusing on eutrophication.

The Ontario government debt consists of the liabilities of the Government of Ontario. An expert on environmental radiation measurements, she was the first woman and first health physicist to become a Commissioner at the US government's Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Devine is also the Chief Scientist at Canadian Blood Services and the director of the Centre for Blood Research at University of British Columbia. In 2015, she was elected as a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.

Heather Sheardown is a professor in the Chemical Engineering department at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and holder of a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Ophthalmic Biomaterials and Drug Delivery System from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC). Her research has focused on biomaterials and eye health, including bioengineered contact lenses, and eye drops that can be used for targeted drug delivery. She was the student of Professor John Brash.
