Gallery Press is an independent Irish publishing company, publishing Irish poetry, drama, and prose by contemporary Irish writers. [1] Founded by poet Peter Fallon as the Gallery Books imprint of Tara Telephone Publications, itself an offshoot of a beat poetry performance group, it has released more than 400 books by a wide range of artists.
Gallery Books began with the release on 6 February 1970 of Answers by Des O'Mahony and Justin McCarthy. Peter Fallon founded the press when he was eighteen years old and has been the editor and publisher for the life of the publisher. [2]
Gallery operated out of a family home in Dublin for many years but now works from a small 19th-century stone house and its adjacent outbuildings, in Loughcrew in the centre of North Meath.

Francis Edward Ledwidge was a 20th-century Irish poet. From Slane, County Meath, and sometimes known as the "poet of the blackbirds", he was later also known as a First World War war poet. He befriended the established writer Lord Dunsany, who helped with publication of his works. He was killed in action at Ypres in 1917.

The company's first publication was Con Houlihan's now-classic collection of sportswriting, More Than a Game: the title was reprinted twice in a matter of weeks. Under the stewardship of founders Peter O'Connell and Seán O’Keeffe, the press initially published only non-fiction titles, many by significant figures in the worlds of politics, journalism and the arts. The Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award is an Irish poetry award for a collection of poems by an author who has not previously been published in collected form. It is confined to poets born on the island of Ireland, or who have Irish nationality, or are long-term residents of Ireland. It is based on an open competition whose closing date is in July each year. The award was founded by the Patrick Kavanagh Society in 1971 to commemorate the poet.

Peter Fallon is an Irish poet, editor and publisher. As of 2023, he has edited and published 500 books of poetry and drama. He was elected a member of Aosdána, Ireland's arts academy, by his peers, and has been a professor at multiple universities. He is the subject of a 2014 festschrift, which included 17 poems in his honour, including one by Seamus Heaney.
