General elections were held in Nepal in two phases on 26 November and 7 December 2017 to elect the 275 members of the fifth House of Representatives,the lower house of the Federal Parliament of Nepal. The election was held alongside the first provincial elections for the seven provincial assemblies. A political deadlock between the governing Nepali Congress and the winning left-wing coalition over the system used to elect the upper house led to delay in forming the new government. Following the announcement of final result by the Election Commission,K.P. Oli of Communist Party of Nepal was sworn in as Prime Minister on 15 February 2018 by the President according to Article 76 (2) of the constitution. He passed a Motion of Confidence on 11 March 2018 with 208 votes.
The Provincial Assembly of Bagmati Province also known as the Bagmati Pradesh Sabha,is a unicameral governing and law making body of Bagmati Province,one of the seven provinces in Nepal The assembly is seated in the provincial capital at Hetauda in Makwanpur District at the Regional Educational Directorate Office. The assembly has 110 members of whom 66 are elected through first-past-the-post voting and 44 of whom are elected through proportional representation. The term of the assembly is five years unless dissolved earlier.

The assembly is seated a Dhangadhi in Kailali District at the District Coordination Committee Hall. The assembly has 53 members of whom 32 are elected through first-past-the-post voting and 21 are elected through proportional representation. The term of the assembly is 5 years unless dissolved earlier

Hem kumar Rai is a Nepali politician and a member of the House of Representatives of the federal parliament of Nepal. He is also a member of the parliamentary Finance Committee. He won his seat from the Solukhumbu-1 constituency as a candidate from Communist Party of Nepal of the left alliance,by defeating his nearest rival Bal Bahadur KC of Nepali Congress. He garnered 20,747 votes to KC's 17,294. After his party united with CPN UML to form Nepal Communist Party (NCP),he became the new party's "co-incharge" for Solukhumbu district.
Hit Bahadur Tamang is a Nepali politician and a member of the House of Representatives of the federal parliament of Nepal. He was elected from Nuwakot-1 constituency representing CPN MC of the left alliance,defeating senior Nepali Congress leader,ex-finance minister Ram Saran Mahat. He was elected by a margin of 8,553 votes,receiving 36,473 votes to Mahat's 27,920. He had been a candidate from Nuwakot in both the constituent assembly elections of 2008 and 2013 but lost to Mahat both times.
Maheshwar Jung Gahatraj is a Nepali communist politician and a member of the House of Representatives of the federal parliament of Nepal. He was the commander of the first attack carried out by the Maoists,that began the Nepalese civil war.
General elections were held in Nepal on 20 November 2022 to elect the 275 members of the House of Representatives. There were two ballots in the election;one to elect 165 members from single-member constituencies via FPTP,and the other to elect the remaining 110 members from a single nation-wide constituency via party-list proportional representation.
At the end of 2020,a major split in the Nepal Communist Party revived the Communist Party of Nepal,and the Communist Party of Nepal.
The first Bagmati Provincial Assembly was elected by the 2017 provincial elections. 110 members were elected to the assembly,66 of whom were elected through direct elections and 44 of whom were elected through the party list proportional representation system. The term of the assembly started on 1 February 2018 and ended in September 2022. Dormani Poudel and Astalaxmi Shakya served as the chief ministers from the CPN and Rajendra Prasad Pandey served as chief minister from CPN during the term of the assembly. Sanu Kumar Shrestha served as the speaker of the assembly and Radhika Tamang served as the deputy speaker.
The first Sudurpashchim Provincial Assembly was elected by the 2017 provincial elections. 53 members were elected to the assembly,32 of whom were elected through direct elections and 21 of whom were elected through the party list proportional representation system. The term of the assembly started on 4 February 2018 and ended in September 2022. Trilochan Bhatta from the CPN served as chief minister during the term of the assembly. Arjun Bahadur Thapa served as the speaker of the assembly and Nirmala Badal Joshi served as the deputy speaker.
