Garad Ali Garad Jama was the 19th garad of the Dhulbahante Garadate, from 1966 until 1985, although he was the effective supreme Garad of the Dhulbahante from as early as the 1950s. He is best known for his role as head of the USP party.

As the head of USP, he oversaw the successful election bids of 13 USP representatives, wherein Garad Ali Garad Jama himself became the first post-independence representative of Las Anod city: [1] [2]

Las Anod is the administrative capital of the Sool region, currently controlled by Khatumo State forces aligned with Somalia.

The Dhulbahante is a Somali clan family, part of the Harti clan which itself belongs to the largest Somali clan-family — the Darod. They are the traditional inhabitants of the physiographic Nugaal in its topographic sense, and its pre-independence administrative sense, which included Doollo. The clan's progenitor is buried at Badweyn.

The Warsangali is a major Somali sub clan, part of the Harti clan which itself belongs to one of the largest Somali tribe-families - the Darod. In the Somali language, the name Warsangali means "bringer of good news." The Warsangeli primarily inhabit the Sanaag.

Garad Jama Garad Ali was the 21st supreme traditional clan sultan (Garaad) of the Dhulbahante.

Garad is a term used to refer to a clan leader or regional administrator. It was used primarily by Muslims in the Horn of Africa that were associated with Islamic states, most notably the Adal Sultanate.

Jama is a common Somali male name. The name is usually given to boys born on the blessed Islamic day of Friday (jumu’ah).

Garad Saleban Garad Mohamed was a Somali clan leader. He was the supreme Garad of the Mohamoud Garad and the second most senior traditional leader of the Dhulbahante clan.

The Mohamoud Garad is a Somali clan. Its members form a part of the Dhulbahante, a sub-division of the Harti/Darod clan-family. The clan is divided into three main sub-clans ― namely the Jama Siad, the Ugaadhyahan and Omar Wa’eys.

The Farah Garad or the Garad Farah is a Somali clan which is part of the Dhulbahante clan-family, a sub-division of the larger Harti/Darod clan. The primary homeland of these clans include the regions of Sool and Sanaag And Dmco Doollo DDS in SSC KHAATUMO, the Lower Juba region in Somalia and the Dollo Zone in Ethiopia. The Bah Nugaaleed are composed of three major sub-groups Qayaad Majors in accordance with their locality in the SSCD regions. <span class="mw-page-title-main">Garad Abdiqani Garad Jama</span> Garad of Dhulbahante (r. 1985–2006)

Garad Abdiqani Garad Jama was the twentieth supreme traditional clan sultan (Garad) of the Dhulbahante, and the tenth minister of foreign affairs of Somalia. In May 1991, the Garad led the Dhulbahante delegation at the Grand Conference in Burao and was first to table the case for Somaliland's secession. He was also one of several signatories of the Somaliland Declaration of Independence on behalf of the Dhulbahante.

Garad Jama "Farah" was the 18th garad or sultan of the Dhulbahante Garadate, from the 1920s until 1960. His surname isn't Farah, but he acquired the title to distinguish Farah Garad from the garad/sultan of the equally sized Mahamuud Garad clan and that of the Bah Nugaal clan.

SSC or HMB-SSC or HBM-SSC was the name of the self-proclaimed autonomous government of the Dhulbahante clan living between Somaliland and Puntland, which was active from 2009 to around 2012. It claimed possession of the so-called SSC regions of Sool (S), Sanaag (S), and Cayn (C).

The Dhulbahante Garadship is presumed to have began in the 16th century with Garad Shishore assuming the royal title in approximately 1530. During the 19th century, the Dhulbahante garadate morphed into a dual monarchy. The current Garad, Garad Jama Garad Ali hails from this long line of succession.

The Las Anod conflict is an ongoing armed conflict between the Somaliland National Army and the SSC-Khatumo forces of the Dhulbahante in Las Anod, the capital of the Sool region. Fighting erupted on February 6 after Somaliland security forces held a violent crackdown on civil protests. On February 8, the supreme Garad of Dhulbahante, Garad Jama Garad Ali, declared an intent to secede and reunite with the Federal Government of Somalia.
