Geraint Owen Jones is a former cricketer who played for both England and Papua New Guinea. Born to Welsh parents in Papua New Guinea, Jones was the first-choice wicketkeeper for the England cricket team between 2004 and 2006. He later played international cricket for Papua New Guinea from 2012 to 2014. He announced his retirement from first-class cricket in July 2015 following his resignation as the first-class cricket captain of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club.

Cricket PNG, originally founded as the Papua New Guinea Cricket Board of Control, is the official governing body of the sport of cricket in Papua New Guinea. The 2015–2017 ICC Intercontinental Cup was the seventh edition of the ICC Intercontinental Cup, an international first-class cricket tournament between leading associate members of the International Cricket Council (ICC). The tournament took place during 2015 to 2017. It ran in parallel with the 2015–17 ICC World Cricket League Championship, but with slightly different teams. The 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two was an international cricket tournament that took place in April 2019 in Namibia. It was contested by six teams; Canada, Hong Kong, Oman, Papua New Guinea, the United States and tournament hosts Namibia. It formed part of the 2017–19 cycle of the World Cricket League (WCL) which determined the qualification for the 2023 Cricket World Cup. The final and third-place playoff match were granted One Day International (ODI) status by the International Cricket Council. Namibia won the tournament, after they beat Oman by 145 runs in the final. It was Namibia's first win in an ODI match, and it was the first ever ODI match played by Oman.
Simon Atai is a Papua New Guinean cricketer. In December 2017, he was named in Papua New Guinea's squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He was the leading run-scorer for Papua New Guinea in the tournament, with 116 runs in six matches.
A women's Twenty20 cricket tournament at the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa, was held from 8 to 13 July 2019 at the Faleata Oval Grounds. The Papua New Guinea cricket team toured Oman in September 2021 to play two One Day International (ODI) matches against Nepal and two ODI matches against the United States. The matches were used as preparation for all three teams ahead of the Cricket World Cup League 2 series, also in Oman, which started on 13 September 2021 and 25 September 2021 respectively.
The 2021 Summer T20 Bash was a series of Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket matches played in the United Arab Emirates in October 2021 between Ireland, Namibia, Papua New Guinea, Scotland and the United Arab Emirates. The UAE played one match against Namibia and three matches against Ireland, Scotland played one match against Namibia and one against Papua New Guinea, and Papua New Guinea and Namibia played one match against each other. The matches were used as preparation for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
