The Gary Player Country Club is a golf club in Sun City, South Africa, named after golf icon and Grand Slam winner, Gary Player. It is home to one of the world's longest golf courses, at almost 8,000 yards. [2] [3]
The Gary Player designed championship course is widely considered to be one of the best in South Africa, and one of the world's top 100. It has been voted the best several times by both Golf Digest and Complete Golfer, the leading golf magazines in the country. Player has designed almost 400 championship courses around the world, but this is the only course that officially carries his name.
The club also has a Gary Player Spa, restaurant and pro shop. The course is one of two within the Sun City Resort, the other being the Lost City Golf Course, with its famous crocodile hole with the green in the shape of the African continent, which was also designed by Gary Player but in a desert African style. In December of each year, the club stages the Nedbank Golf Challenge, hosted by Gary Player and is one of the world's richest golf tournaments.

Pinehurst is a village in Moore County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2020 census, the village population was 17,581. It is home of the historic Pinehurst Resort, a Golf resort, which has hosted multiple United States Open Championships in the sport. The village lies adjacent to the Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club, which has hosted multiple U.S. Open tournaments in Women's Golf. A large portion of the central village, including the resort complexes, is a National Historic Landmark District, designated in 1996 for its landscape design and its significance in the history of golf in the United States. Pinehurst has been designated as the "Home of American Golf" by the United States Golf Association, which announced a second headquarters in the village in 2020. The area is also known for its strong equestrian community, has hosted the former Stoneybrook Steeplechase, and currently maintains the Pinehurst Harness Track. Fox hunting is also a common sport in the area.
Theodore Ernest Els is a South African professional golfer. A former World No. 1, he is nicknamed "The Big Easy" due to his physical stature along with his fluid golf swing. Among his more than 70 career victories are four major championships: the U.S. Open in 1994 at Oakmont and in 1997 at Congressional, and The Open Championship in 2002 at Muirfield and in 2012 at Royal Lytham & St Annes. He is one of six golfers to twice win both the U.S. Open and The Open Championship.
Jack William Nicklaus, nicknamed "the Golden Bear", is a retired American professional golfer and golf course designer. He is widely considered to be either the greatest or one of the greatest golfers of all time. He won 117 professional tournaments in his career. Over a quarter-century, he won a record 18 major championships, three more than second-placed Tiger Woods. Nicklaus focused on the major championships—the Masters Tournament, U.S. Open, Open Championship and PGA Championship—and played a selective schedule of regular PGA Tour events. He competed in 164 major tournaments, more than any other player, and finished with 73 PGA Tour victories, third behind Sam Snead (82) and Woods (82).
Gary Jim Player DMS, OIG is a South African retired professional golfer who is widely considered to be one of the greatest golfers of all time. During his career, Player won nine major championships on the regular tour and nine major championships on the Champions Tour. At the age of 29, Player won the 1965 U.S. Open and became the only non-American to win all four majors in a career, known as the career Grand Slam. At the time, he was the youngest player to do this, though Jack Nicklaus (26) and Tiger Woods (24) subsequently broke this record. Player became only the third golfer in history to win the Career Grand Slam, following Ben Hogan and Gene Sarazen, and only Nicklaus and Woods have performed the feat since. He won over 150 professional tournaments on six continents over seven decades and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.
