Gavin MacKenzie is a Canadian lawyer and former Treasurer of the Law Society of Upper Canada. [1] He works as a lawyer and partner at MacKenzie Barristers,a boutique litigation firm in Toronto,Ontario that he co-founded with his daughter,Brooke. [2] MacKenzie's practice focuses primarily on civil appeals and professional liability litigation. [3]
MacKenzie grew up in Woodstock,Ontario. He attended the University of Western Ontario,studying journalism and political science,and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. degree in 1972. He graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1975.
MacKenzie was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1977.
MacKenzie has worked for a variety of large firms in Toronto,practising civil litigation. In 1993,he published Lawyers and Ethics:Professional Responsibility and Discipline. He has written columns for The Law Times ("The Profession") and the Canadian Bar Association's National Magazine ("Conduct Becoming"). [4] He has also taught at Osgoode Hall Law School as an adjunct professor,teaching legal ethics and professional responsibility.
MacKenzie was an elected bencher of the Law Society from 1995 to 2008. He has also been honoured by induction as a Fellow for the American College of Trial Lawyers. He has served as chair of the Ontario Law Association's Library Co. Inc.,and has chaired the Law Society's Professional Regulation Committee and Strategic Planning Committee. In February,2006,he was elected Treasurer,the highest position in the society,which he held until June,2008. [5] He presented a third option to address the issue of articling as a requirement to become a lawyer in Ontario. [6]
In 2010,MacKenzie was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the Law Society of Upper Canada.

The Arbitration Roundtable of Toronto is made up of several litigators,academics,arbitrators,and mediators from the Greater Toronto Area. The group promotes arbitration as an alternative method of conflict resolution over litigation,especially in commercial suits. Members include commercial litigators from Toronto law firms including some of the Seven Sisters of Bay Street. Each member has experience and interest in promoting commercial Arbitration. The group dedicates its time to encouraging this form of Dispute resolution through seminars,papers,and talks.
James Cooper Morton,C.S.,LL.M. was once a prominent Canadian lawyer with political aspirations,teaching law part-time,blogging and writing in the legal and popular press. In June 2018,he was charged with two counts of forgery of court documents,uttering forged documents,attempting to obstruct justice,signing what purported to be an affidavit without authority,bigamy,and procuring a feigned marriage. The Law Society of Ontario suspended Mr. Morton from practicing law in August 2018 and he pled guilty to criminal charges in April 2019.

The Treasurer presides over Convocation,the Law Society’s governing board,chairing and setting the agenda for its meetings and establishing Convocation committees. The Treasurer is elected each year at the June meeting of Convocation. Treasurers generally serve two terms.
Mahmud Jamal is a Canadian jurist serving as a puisne justice of the Supreme Court of Canada since 2021. Jamal worked as a partner at Osler,Hoskin &Harcourt and taught law at McGill University and Osgoode Hall Law School before he was appointed to the Court of Appeal for Ontario in 2019. He was nominated to the Supreme Court on June 17,2021,taking office on July 1 to succeed Rosalie Abella. Jamal was born in Kenya to a family of South Asian origin,making him the first person from a visible minority group to serve as a justice of the Supreme Court.
