Genc Pollo (born 7 April 1963 in Tirana) is an Albanian conservative politician. An Orthodox Christian and trained historian,Pollo was co-founder and first spokesman of the Albanian Democratic Party. He first became a member of the Albanian Parliament in 1996 and has held various ministerial posts since 2005. [1] [2]
Pollo was born in 1963 in Tirana. His father,Stefanaq Pollo was an academic,scholar,professor and historian. After graduating in Historical Studies from the University of Tirana in 1986 he worked as researcher at the Academy of Sciences of Albania for two years and then followed postgraduate studies at the University of Vienna thanks to a scholarship awarded by the Austrian government.
Pollo participated actively in the founding of the Democratic Party of Albania,the first pro-Western Albanian political party,which successfully contested Communist rule in the first multiparty elections. During 1992 to 1996 he served as an advisor to Sali Berisha,then President of Albania. In 1996 he became a member of the Parliament of Albania. He has held various party and parliamentary senior positions related to education,foreign affairs and European integration. In 2001 he became head of the New Democratic Party. The New Democrat Party became part of the center-right coalition that won the summer 2005 general elections that eventually merged with the Democratic Party. Pollo assumed the portfolio of Minister of Education and Science in the following government. For one year (2008–2009) he had the position of Deputy Prime Minister. From 1996 to 2001 he was also a member of the Council of Europe.
Pollo was reelected as a member of the Albanian Parliament after the general elections,held in June 2009 which reconfirmed a Democratic Party led coalition and was appointed Minister for Innovation and Information Communication Technology in the new Cabinet. Among the policies initiated by Minister Pollo,in Albania,in 2011,the 3G technology will be implemented. As a result of regulation and increased competition in the market Albanians who use mobile phone will receive better services and cheaper prices. In spring 2011 will be implemented the mobile number portability. After equipping all schools with computer labs connected to the Internet,in Albania,550 post offices across the country have free internet service.
Genc Pollo is married and has two children. He is fluent in four foreign languages,besides his own Albanian (English,German,French,and Italian).
Sali Ram Berisha is an Albanian cardiologist and conservative politician who served as the president of Albania from 1992 to 1997 and 32nd prime minister from 2005 to 2013. Berisha serves as Chairman of the Democratic Party of Albania since 2022 and has held the position previously from 1990 to 2013. He also serves as the incumbent Leader of Opposition in the Albanian parliament.

Fatos Thanas Nano is an Albanian socialist politician who served as Prime Minister of Albania in 1991,from 1997 to 1998 and from 2002 to 2005. He was the first leader and founder of the Socialist Party of Albania and a member of the Albanian Parliament from 1991 to 1993 and 1997 to 2009. He reformed the anti-revisionist Marxist-Leninist ideology of the Labor Party of Albania into social democracy for its successor,the Socialist Party. During his leadership,the Socialist Party,as a result of reforms,joined the Socialist International and Party of European Socialists. Nano was a candidate in the 2007 presidential election but did not win. He again tried in the 2012 presidential election,but he did not even qualify as a candidate,because the leaders of parties in Parliament obstructed their respective MPs to elect him as candidate in the elections.

Kastriot Selman Islami is an Albanian politician. Formerly member of the Communist Party of Albania,turned moderate Socialist. He was Chairman of the Parliament of Albania from April 17,1991 to April 6,1992. On April 3,1992,when the last communist president,Ramiz Alia resigned,Islami served as acting president for three days. During the presidency of Sali Berisha (1992–1997),Islami had no important positions in the government,but from 1997 to 2005 he was an important person in the government again holding several Ministerial positions in the Socialist "NANO government". Most prominently he was foreign minister from 2003 to 2005,but lost his position in the cabinet when a new government was formed with Berisha as prime minister after the 2005 elections. He returned to Democratic Party on 7 May 2013 after he left the Socialist Party in March.
Regular elections in Albania are mandated by the Constitution and legislation enacted by Parliament. The Parliament (Kuvendi) has 140 members elected for four-year terms. The electoral system is open list proportional representation. There are 12 multi-member constituencies corresponding to the country's 12 administrative regions. Within any constituency,parties must meet a threshold of 3 percent of votes,and pre-election coalitions must meet a threshold of 5 percent of votes.

Local elections were held in Albania on 21 June 2015. Voters elected mayors,municipal council members,municipal unit mayors and municipal unit members. The Central Election Commission of Albania was responsible for administrating the elections. This provided that the community type of komuna is abolished and at the same time the total number of communities were reduced from 373 to 61 Bashkia.
