The General Authority of Meteorology and Environmental Protection was a government body responsible for environmental issues, meteorological information and weather prediction in Saudi Arabia. [2]

History

When the Directorate of Military Affairs was established in 1930, it involved the Meteorology affairs before it separated to an independent entity called Directorate of Meteorology. [3] in 1950 the Directorate of Meteorology was transformed to the General of Meteorology and the Civil Aviation Authority whereas later in 1981 become the Meteorology Department and Environmental Protection Administration. [4] [3] in 2011, it was amended to the General Presidency of Meteorology and Environment Protection and eventually in 2016, it was changed to the General Authority of Meteorology and Environmental Protection. [3]

In March 2019, the authority was officially dissolved by the council of ministers. The National Center for Meteorology, National Center for Wildlife, National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combatting Desertification, and National Center for Environmental Compliance were created in its place. [5]

The Saudi National Security Council (SNSC) (Arabic: مجلس الأمن الوطني) was the body in charge of coordinating Saudi Arabia's national security, intelligence and foreign policy strategy. It was established in 2005 by King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The first secretary general of the SNSC was Prince Bandar bin Sultan, the former Saudi Ambassador to the United States. The assistant secretary general of the SNSC was Prince Salman bin Sultan until 6 August 2013. The council was abolished by King Salman on 29 January 2015.

Thus, as the number of population increases and the industrial activity grows, environmental issues pose a real challenge to the country.

The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) is an official government body in Saudi Arabia responsible for the protection and supporting the intellectual property in the Kingdom.

The Ministry of Environment Water and Agriculture, is a government ministry in Saudi Arabia responsible for the achievement of sustainability of the environment and natural resources in the Kingdom. The center is tasked with weather forecasting, issuing early warnings, and collaborating with other international meteorology institutions to employ the latest technologies.
