Genevieve Orton (born May 13, 1984) is a Canadian sprint kayaker who has competed since the late 2000s. She won a bronze medal in the K-1 4 x 200 m event at the 2009 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Dartmouth. On June 27, 2016 Orton was nominated to Canada's Olympic team. [1]

A sprint canoe is a canoe used in International Canoe Federation canoe sprint. It is an open boat propelled by one, two or four paddlers from a kneeling position, using single-bladed paddles. The difficulty of balance can depend on how wide or narrow the canoe is, although regularly the less contact a canoe has with the water the faster it goes. This makes the narrower boats much faster and popular when it comes to racing.
Angus Mortimer is a Canadian former sprint kayaker. He represented Canada at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, finishing ninth in the K-4 1000 m event. He won a gold medal in the 2007 Pan American Games K-1 1000m.
Alwyn Morris, CM is a retired Canadian sprint kayaker. A member of the Mohawk nation in Kahnawake, he is considered one of the most influential Indigenous athletes of all time. He is the first and only Aboriginal Canadian athlete who won a gold medal at the Summer Olympic Games and one of the only three North American aboriginals to do so, alongside Jim Thorpe and Billy Mills.
The 2009 International Canoe Federation (ICF) Canoe Sprint World Championships were held 12–16 August 2009 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, on Lake Banook. The Canadian city was selected to host the championships in October 2003 after having done so previously in 1997. Final preparations were made after the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, with competition format changed for the first time since the 2001 championships. Four exhibition events for both paddleability and women's canoe were added. Sponsorship was local within the province of Nova Scotia and the Halifax Regional Municipality. Media coverage was provided from Canada, Europe and the United States on the Internet, television and mobile phone. 669 canoeists from 68 nations participated at the championships themselves.
Gabriella Szabó is a Hungarian sprint canoer who has competed since the late 2000s.
Danuta Kozák is a Hungarian sprint canoer. Her mother is of Polish descent. She has won one silver and five Olympic gold medals, three of which in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, making her the only female to win K1, K2 and K4 at the same Olympics.
John Joseph Wood was a Canadian sprint canoeist who competed from the late 1960s to the later 1970s. Competing in three Summer Olympics, he won the silver medal in the C-1 500 m event at Montreal in 1976. The medal was Canada's first in the sport since 1952.
Mark de Jonge is a Canadian male sprint canoeist, primarily specializing the 200 m kayak event. De Jonge won a bronze medal in the K-1 200 m at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He is the two time reigning world champion in same event having also won a silver medal at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in 2013. He is also the current Pan American champion in the 200 having won gold in Toronto at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, where he also won an additional bronze, and a silver and bronze at previous editions of the Pan Am Games. De Jong is currently the world record holder in the 200 m. He was named the Air Canada Athlete of the Year in 2015 for Canada.
Don Brien is a Canadian sprint canoer, who competed in the mid to late 1980s. He won a bronze medal with partner Colin Shaw in the K-2 1000 m at the 1985 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships at Mechelen.

William "Bill" Brigden was a Canadian sprint canoer who competed in the 1940s and early 1950s. He finished 11th in the K-2 10000 m event at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki.
Liam Heath is a British sprint canoeist. He was a gold medalist in the individual 200m kayak sprint event, and a silver in the men's double with Jon Schofield at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He is the most successful British canoeist at the Olympics, with an additional a bronze at the 2012 London Olympics in the K-2 200 with Schofield.

Margaret "Maggie" Hogan is an American canoe sprinter and former collegiate swimmer who is a member of the U.S. National Canoe and Kayak Team. She was the first American to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro for canoe sprinting.
