George Ian MacLean served as the gold commissioner of Yukon. He remained in office from April 1,1928 to June 30,1932. [5] Before assuming office he was the assistant Financial Comptroller of the Department of the Interior in Ottawa. After his term the position of Gold Commissioner and Comptroller were combined in 1932 with the Comptroller being the title for the chief executive. Spelling was changed to Controller in 1936. [6]
He died in Vancouver on December 16,1939. [7]
The Northwest Territories is a federal territory of Canada. At a land area of approximately 1,144,000 km2 (442,000 sq mi) and a 2016 census population of 41,790,it is the second-largest and the most populous of the three territories in Northern Canada. He succeeded Wilfred George Brown and was followed in the position by George Robertson Cameron. The Yukon territorial government today resembles those in the Canadian provinces,i.e.,parliamentary with a Legislative Assembly and a Premier as head of government. But historically,and during the term of Collins,the federally-appointed Commissioner was the empowered chief executive of the territory.
George Patten MacKenzie (1873–1954) was an educator and politician in the Yukon. He served as the gold commissioner from 1912 to 1924.
Andrew Harold Gibson was the commissioner of Yukon from 1950 to 1951. He was preceded by John Edward Gibben and succeeded by Frederick Fraser. He died in 1971 in Whitehouse Territory,Yukon,Canada.
The Order of Yukon is a civilian honour for merit in the Canadian territory of Yukon. Instituted in 2018,with its first members inducted in 2019,it is the highest honour which can be bestowed by the Government of Yukon. It is intended to honour current and former residents of the territory.
