In 2004,Karagiannidis founded the Wireless Communications &Information Processing (WCIP) Group. WCIP belongs to Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki,Greece.
WCIP conducts fundamental and applied research in the broader fields of telecommunications systems and signal processing,both independently and by means of more than 30 international collaborations. The research interests and experience of the WCIP covers areas of RF and optical wireless communications (communications theory,power transfer,machine learning,security,and caching),Machine Learning for communications,Signal processing, and Communications security.[1],[2],[3],[4],[5]
Fellowship and Membership
Dr. Karagiannidis was in the past Editor in several IEEE journals and from 2012 to 2015 he was the Editor-in Chief of IEEE Communications Letters. From September 2018 to June 2022 he served as Associate Editor-in Chief of IEEE Open Journal of Communications Society. Starting from January 2025,he is the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Communications.[2],[3],[4]
Awards
Dr. Karagiannidis received several prestigious awards,such as the 2018 IEEE ComSoc SPCE Technical Recognition Award,the 2021 IEEE ComSoc RCC Technical Recognition Award,and the 2022 Humboldt Research Award from Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. He is one of the highly cited authors across all areas of electrical engineering,recognized by Clarivate Analytics as the Web-of-Science Highly-Cited Researcher for the ten consecutive years,2015–2024.[6],[7],[8],[9]

He is also an author of novels. His first book is an historical novel in Greek language with the title “My heart your gun”.[10]
