A bullpup firearm is one with its firing grip located in front of the breech of the weapon, instead of behind it. This creates a weapon with a shorter overall length for a given barrel length, and one that is often lighter, more compact, concealable and more maneuverable than a conventionally configured firearm. Where it is desirable for troops to be issued a more compact weapon, the use of a bullpup configuration allows for barrel length to be retained, thus preserving muzzle velocity, range and ballistic effectiveness.

Kel-Tec is a privately owned Florida corporation. George Kellgren, Kel-Tec owner and chief engineer, is a Swedish designer who also designed many earlier Husqvarna, Swedish Interdynamics AB, Intratec and Grendel brand firearms. The Kel-Tec RFB is a gas-operated bullpup type semi-automatic rifle, manufactured by Kel-Tec Industries of Florida. The Grendel P30 is a semi-automatic pistol chambered in .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire. It was manufactured from 1990 to 1994.
The Kel-Tec PMR-30 is a full-size semi-automatic pistol manufactured by Kel-Tec of the United States. It was made available in 2011. It has a single action trigger pull of 3.5 to 5 lbf and a manual safety device. It is chambered in .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire and the special, factory-shipped, double-stack magazine has a capacity of 30 rounds. The PMR-30 uses fixed fiber optic open sights. The slide is also pre-drilled to allow for the mounting of various red-dot sights with the purchase of appropriate mounting plates from the manufacturer. It has a European-style magazine release.

Zytel was used for grips, magazines, and furniture while slides, barrels, slide rails, and other high-pressure parts were manufactured using LaSalle Stressproof steel.
