Hampden County is a non-governmental county located in the Pioneer Valley of the U.S. state of Massachusetts,in the United States. As of the 2020 census,Hampden County's population was 465,825. Its traditional county seat is Springfield,the Connecticut River Valley's largest city,and economic and cultural capital;with an estimated population of 154,758,approximately one-third of Hampden County residents live in Springfield.

At the 2020 census,the city had a population of 55,560,making it the second-largest city in western Massachusetts after Springfield. Chicopee is part of the Springfield,Massachusetts Metropolitan Statistical Area. The communities of Chicopee Center (Cabotville),Chicopee Falls,Willimansett,Fairview,Aldenville,Burnett Road,Smith Highlands and Westover are located within the city.
The United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts is the federal district court whose territorial jurisdiction is the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,United States. The first court session was held in Boston in 1789. The second term was held in Salem in 1790 and court session locations alternated between the two cities until 1813. That year,Boston became the court's permanent home. A western division was opened in Springfield in 1979 and a central division was opened in Worcester in 1987. The court's main building is the John Joseph Moakley Federal Courthouse on Fan Pier in South Boston.

The Springfield Street Historic District is a predominantly residential historic district south of the downtown area of Chicopee,Massachusetts. It encompasses a significant number of Queen Anne style houses built in the second half of the 19th century by wealthy residents of Chicopee,as well as housing for skilled workers at the nearby textile mills. It is centered where Springfield Street and Fairview Avenue meet. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
