George T. French Jr. is an American academic administrator and university president. He is the fifth president of Clark Atlanta University in downtown Atlanta,serving since September 2019. [1] [2] He previously served as the 14th president of Miles College from March 2006 until August 2019. [3] [4] [5]
French earned BA degree in political science from the University of Louisville,and attended University of Richmond School of Law for two year,but was recruited by Miles College to serve as the director of development. He earned his JD at Miles Law School. He also has a PhD in higher education from Jackson State University. [2] [6]
UNCF,the United Negro College Fund,also known as the United Fund,is an American philanthropic organization that funds scholarships for black students and general scholarship funds for 37 private historically black colleges and universities. UNCF was incorporated on April 25,1944,by Frederick D. Patterson,Mary McLeod Bethune,and others. UNCF is headquartered at 1805 7th Street,NW in Washington,D.C. In 2005,UNCF supported approximately 65,000 students at over 900 colleges and universities with approximately $113 million in grants and scholarships. About 60% of these students are the first in their families to attend college,and 62% have annual family incomes of less than $25,000. UNCF also administers over 450 named scholarships.
Andrew Jackson Young Jr. is an American politician,diplomat,and activist. Beginning his career as a pastor,Young was an early leader in the civil rights movement,serving as executive director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and a close confidant to Martin Luther King Jr. Young later became active in politics,serving as a U.S. Congressman from Georgia,United States Ambassador to the United Nations in the Carter Administration,and 55th Mayor of Atlanta. He was the first African American elected to Congress from Georgia since Reconstruction,as well as one of the first two African Americans elected to Congress from the former Confederacy since Reconstruction,alongside Barbara Jordan of Texas. Since leaving office,Young has founded or served in many organizations working on issues of public policy and political lobbying.
Morehouse College is a private historically Black,men's,liberal arts college in Atlanta,Georgia. Anchored by its main campus of 61 acres (25 ha) near Downtown Atlanta,the college has a variety of residential dorms and academic buildings east of Ashview Heights. Along with Spelman College,Clark Atlanta University,and the Morehouse School of Medicine,the college is a member of the Atlanta University Center consortium.
John Robert Lewis was an American politician and civil rights activist who served in the United States House of Representatives for Georgia's 5th congressional district from 1987 until his death in 2020. He participated in the 1960 Nashville sit-ins,the Freedom Rides,was the chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) from 1963 to 1966,and was one of the "Big Six" leaders of groups who organized the 1963 March on Washington. Fulfilling many key roles in the civil rights movement and its actions to end legalized racial segregation in the United States,in 1965 Lewis led the first of three Selma to Montgomery marches across the Edmund Pettus Bridge where,in an incident which became known as Bloody Sunday,state troopers and police attacked Lewis and the other marchers.
Clark Atlanta University is a private,Methodist,historically black research university in Atlanta,Georgia. Clark Atlanta is the first Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in the Southern United States. Founded on September 19,1865 as Atlanta University,it consolidated with Clark College to form Clark Atlanta University in 1988. It is classified among "R2:Doctoral Universities –High research activity".
Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science is a private university in Willowbrook,California,focused on health sciences. It was founded in 1966 in response to inadequate medical access within the Watts region of Los Angeles,California. The university is named in honor of Charles R. Drew.
Miles College is a private historically black college in Fairfield,Alabama. Founded in 1898,it is associated with the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and a member of the United Negro College Fund.
Donald Lee Hollowell was an American civil rights attorney during the Civil Rights Movement,in the state of Georgia. He successfully sued to integrate Atlanta's public schools,Georgia colleges,universities and public transit,freed Martin Luther King Jr. from prison,and mentored civil rights attorneys. The first black regional director of a federal agency,Hollowell is best remembered for his instrumental role in winning the desegregation of the University of Georgia in 1961. He is the subject of a 2010 documentary film,Donald L. Hollowell:Foot Soldier for Equal Justice.
Drumline is a 2002 American coming-of-age teen comedy-drama film directed by Charles Stone III. The screenplay,which was inspired by the Southwest Dekalb High School Drumline,was written by Tina Gordon Chism and Shawn Schepps. The film follows a young drummer from New York,played by Nick Cannon,who enters the fictional Atlanta A&T University and bumps heads with the leader of his new school's drum section. Zoe Saldaña,Leonard Roberts and Orlando Jones also co-star.
Michael Lucius Lomax is an American educator and former elected official who has served as president and chief executive officer of the United Negro College Fund since 2004. From 1997 to 2004,he served as president of Dillard University,a historically black university HBCU. In addition,Lomax was elected as a member and then chairman of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners,the first African American elected official in history to lead a major county government in the State of Georgia.
The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational and professional organization of African-American journalists,students,and media professionals. Founded in 1975 in Washington,D.C.,by 44 journalists,the NABJ's stated purpose is to provide quality programs and services to and advocate on behalf of black journalists. The organization has worked for diversity and to increase the number of minorities in newsrooms across the country.

Robert Michael Franklin Jr. is an American author,theologian,ordained minister,and academic administrator who served as the tenth president of Morehouse College from 2007 to 2012. Franklin is a visiting scholar in residence at Stanford University's Martin Luther King Jr. Research and Education Institute. In January 2014,he became director of the religion program at the Chautauqua Institution.

He served as the president of Miles College in Fairfield,Alabama from 1961 to 1970,and became the first African American president of Paine College in 1971. He was active in Birmingham,Alabama during the Civil Rights movement,and was a leader within black educational institutions for many years.

McKenna III is an American politician and former educator currently serving as a member of the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education for District 1,a position he has held since 2014. Prior to his board tenure,McKenna served as the principal of George Washington Preparatory High School. During his tenure,he led reforms to address issues related to gang violence in the school. His initiatives at the school were recounted in the 1986 biographical film The George McKenna Story where he was portrayed by Denzel Washington.
