George T. French Jr. is an American academic administrator and university president. He is the fifth president of Clark Atlanta University in downtown Atlanta,serving since September 2019. [1] [2] He previously served as the 14th president of Miles College from March 2006 until August 2019. [3] [4] [5]
French earned BA degree in political science from the University of Louisville,and attended University of Richmond School of Law for two year,but was recruited by Miles College to serve as the director of development. He earned his JD at Miles Law School. He also has a PhD in higher education from Jackson State University. [2] [6]
UNCF,the United Negro College Fund,also known as the United Fund,is an American philanthropic organization that funds scholarships for black students and general scholarship funds for 37 private historically black colleges and universities. UNCF was incorporated on April 25,1944,by Frederick D. Patterson,Mary McLeod Bethune,and others. UNCF is headquartered at 1805 7th Street,NW in Washington,D.C. In 2005,UNCF supported approximately 65,000 students at over 900 colleges and universities with approximately $113 million in grants and scholarships. About 60% of these students are the first in their families to attend college,and 62% have annual family incomes of less than $25,000. UNCF also administers over 450 named scholarships.
Andrew Jackson Young Jr. is an American politician,diplomat,and activist. Beginning his career as a pastor,Young was an early leader in the civil rights movement,serving as executive director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and a close confidant to Martin Luther King Jr. Young later became active in politics,serving as a U.S. Congressman from Georgia,United States Ambassador to the United Nations in the Carter Administration,and 55th Mayor of Atlanta. He was the first African American elected to Congress from Georgia since Reconstruction,as well as one of the first two African Americans elected to Congress from the former Confederacy since Reconstruction,alongside Barbara Jordan of Texas. Since leaving office,Young has founded or served in many organizations working on issues of public policy and political lobbying.
Morehouse College is a private historically Black,men's,liberal arts college in Atlanta,Georgia. Anchored by its main campus of 61 acres (25 ha) near Downtown Atlanta,the college has a variety of residential dorms and academic buildings east of Ashview Heights. Along with Spelman College,Clark Atlanta University,and the Morehouse School of Medicine,the college is a member of the Atlanta University Center consortium.
John Robert Lewis was an American politician and civil rights activist who served in the United States House of Representatives for Georgia's 5th congressional district from 1987 until his death in 2020. He participated in the 1960 Nashville sit-ins,the Freedom Rides,was the chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) from 1963 to 1966,and was one of the "Big Six" leaders of groups who organized the 1963 March on Washington. Fulfilling many key roles in the civil rights movement and its actions to end legalized racial segregation in the United States,in 1965 Lewis led the first of three Selma to Montgomery marches across the Edmund Pettus Bridge where,in an incident which became known as Bloody Sunday,state troopers and police attacked Lewis and the other marchers.
Coretta Scott King was an American author,activist,and civil rights leader and the wife of Martin Luther King Jr. from 1953 until his death. As an advocate for African-American equality,she was a leader for the civil rights movement in the 1960s. King was also a singer who often incorporated music into her civil rights work. King met her husband while attending graduate school in Boston. They both became increasingly active in the American civil rights movement.
Clark Atlanta University is a private,Methodist,historically black research university in Atlanta,Georgia. Clark Atlanta is the first Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in the Southern United States. Founded on September 19,1865 as Atlanta University,it consolidated with Clark College to form Clark Atlanta University in 1988. It is classified among "R2:Doctoral Universities –High research activity".

Donald Lee Hollowell was an American civil rights attorney during the Civil Rights Movement,in the state of Georgia. He successfully sued to integrate Atlanta's public schools,Georgia colleges,universities and public transit,freed Martin Luther King Jr. from prison,and mentored civil rights attorneys. The first black regional director of a federal agency,Hollowell is best remembered for his instrumental role in winning the desegregation of the University of Georgia in 1961. He is the subject of a 2010 documentary film,Donald L. Hollowell:Foot Soldier for Equal Justice.
Drumline is a 2002 American coming-of-age teen comedy-drama film directed by Charles Stone III. The screenplay,which was inspired by the Southwest Dekalb High School Drumline,was written by Tina Gordon Chism and Shawn Schepps. The film follows a young drummer from New York,played by Nick Cannon,who enters the fictional Atlanta A&T University and bumps heads with the leader of his new school's drum section. Zoe Saldaña,Leonard Roberts and Orlando Jones also co-star.
The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit educational and professional organization of African-American journalists,students,and media professionals. Founded in 1975 in Washington,D.C.,by 44 journalists,the NABJ's stated purpose is to provide quality programs and services to and advocate on behalf of black journalists. The organization has worked for diversity and to increase the number of minorities in newsrooms across the country.

He is also credited with helping to diversify the ranks of writers,actors,directors and producers in Hollywood through the landmark 2000 TV Network Agreement,which he helped broker while serving as a former co-chair of the African-American Steering Committee of the Directors Guild of America.
Patrick Lee Trammell was an American college football player. He played quarterback at the University of Alabama from 1958 to 1961. In his senior season,he led the 1961 Alabama Crimson Tide football team to a perfect record of 11–0 and the national championship,and finished fifth in the voting for the Heisman Trophy. A third-generation physician,he lost a six-month battle with metastatic testicular cancer at age 28,shortly after earning his medical degree.
Robert Michael Franklin Jr. is an American author,theologian,ordained minister,and academic administrator who served as the tenth president of Morehouse College from 2007 to 2012. Franklin is a visiting scholar in residence at Stanford University's Martin Luther King Jr. Research and Education Institute. In January 2014,he became director of the religion program at the Chautauqua Institution.

He served as the president of Miles College in Fairfield,Alabama from 1961 to 1970,and became the first African American president of Paine College in 1971. He was active in Birmingham,Alabama during the Civil Rights movement,and was a leader within black educational institutions for many years.
