The Georgia Apple Festival is an annual festival in Ellijay, Georgia. [1] The festival has been held every October since 1971 and offers handmade crafts, live music, and apples. An annual parade and antique car show are also held in conjunction with the festival. [2]
After the boll weevil came through and destroyed Georgia's cotton crops in the 1920s, Gilmer County's economy was bolstered by its apple orchards. A festival to celebrate the apples and what they did for the county during the hard times created by the loss of the cotton crop was first held in 1971. [1]
The only cancellation occurred in 2020.
There are over 300 vendors and exhibitions. The vendor booths include candles, homemade hats, woodwork, crafts, food, and blacksmith and glass blowing exhibits. Apple fritters, pies, and other apple treats are the face of the Georgia apple festival. The hundreds of booths feature craftsmen and artisans from throughout the Southeastern United States.

The Brighton Applefest was created in 1975 by the merchants of Brighton, Ontario, Canada to promote the Brighton area, and the apple-based culture around it. It is now Brighton's largest yearly event, taking place annually during the last week of September, and can draw up to 30,000 visitors. The attendance at the 2011 festival, which did not feature the typical car show, was estimated at 20,000.
Pungo is a rural community located in the southern part of the independent city of Virginia Beach, Virginia and was one of the seven original boroughs when the City of Virginia Beach was created in 1963. The area derives its name from a local Indian tribe, the Machipungo, a branch of the Chesapeake tribe. It was named for a local Indian chief, Machiopungo. Because the community is located in an independent city, there is no individual census for the neighborhood, which was originally part of Princess Anne County until 1963, when the entire county became part of Virginia Beach. Like much of southern Virginia Beach, the area is surrounded by farmland.

The Parker County Peach Festival is an annual event held the second Saturday of each July in Weatherford, Texas, beginning in 1985. In addition to celebrating the peach crop from local growers, the festival also showcases local arts and crafts vendors. It is capable of drawing thousands of attendees. During the festival, vendors set up booths in the open area surrounding the Parker County Courthouse. There is a companion bike rally event called the Peach Pedal, that serves peaches at its rest stops. There are three separate stages for entertainment including a children's stage. In previous years, there have been as many as 200 foods, craft, art, and activity booths. The festival features a “42” domino tournament.
