The Ghana Women's FA Cup, is the top women's knockout tournament of the Ghanaian association football. The competition is played between the clubs of the Ghana Women's Premier League and Division One League. [1] The inaugural winners of the competition were Police Ladies.

History

The Ghana Women's FA Cup was launched in 2016 by the Women’s League Board (WLB) of Ghana Football Association (GFA) as the highest women's knockout tournament. The first four editions of the competitions from 2016 to 2020 were sponsored by Sanford Women’s Clinic. [2] [3] In 2016, Police Ladies defeated Fabulous Ladies by 2–1 to win the maiden edition of the cup. [4] Princella Adubea of Ampem Darko Ladies won the top goal scorer of the competition with 6 goals, whilst Suzy Teye Dede of Lady Strikers was also awarded as the discovery of the tournament. [4]

Sponsorship

The first four editions of the competitions from 2016 to 2020 were sponsored by Sanford Women’s Clinic. [2]

In June 2021, the GFA announced that Electroland Ghana Ltd, distributors of NASCO electronic appliances and sponsors of the Player of the Match award for the Women’s Premier League had extended their sponsorship package to the Women’s FA Cup competition, with players who were adjudged as best players from the Round of 16 and Quarter-finals were to receive a NASCO Hand dryer and a sleek NASCO Mobile Phone each. The best players from the Semi-finals and the Final game were also entitled to products from NASCO. [5]

Ampem Darkoa Ladies F.C. is a Ghanaian professional women's football club based in Techiman in the Bono East Region of Ghana. The club features in the Ghana Women’s Premier League GWPL). The club was formed in 2009. It was one of the foundational clubs for the maiden GWPL season in 2012–13. It is currently the 2nd most successful women's club in Ghana after winning the Women's League on 2 different occasions against Hasaacas Ladies who have won it 4 times.

The 2021 Ghana Women's FA Cup is the 3rd edition of the Ghana Women's FA Cup, the women's knockout football competition of Ghana. The defending champions are Prisons Ladies who won the trophy in 2017.

Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Ghana Women's Premier League side Ampem Darkoa Ladies and the Ghana women's national football team. She was top goal scorer in the 2020–21 season. She was adjudged the Women's footballer of the Year in 2021.

Sonia Opoku is a Ghanaian footballer ,who plays as a attacking midfielder for the Turkish club 1207 Antalya Spor, and the Ghana women's national team. She previously played for Ghanaian club Ampem Darkoa Ladies.

Regina Antwi is a Ghanaian professional footballer, who plays as a defender for 1207 Antalya Spor in the Turkish Women's Football Super League, and the Ghana women's national football team. Police Ladies Football Club is a Ghanaian professional women's football club based in Accra in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. The club features in the Ghana Women's Premier League.
