Gian Chand Gupta (born 25 May 1948) is an Indian politician who served as Speaker of Haryana Legislative Assembly from the Bharatiya Janata Party representing the Panchkula constituency in Haryana. [1] [2] [3]
On 4 November 2019,he was unanimously elected the Speaker of Haryana Legislative Assembly. [4]

Panchkula is a city and district headquarter in the Panchkula district in Haryana,India. It is a satellite town of the state capital Chandigarh. Panchkula is a border city with Punjab,Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh. The origin of the name Panchkula came from "the place where five irrigation canals meet". The Chandigarh-Mohali-Panchkula metropolitan region collectively forms a Chandigarh Tricity,with a combined population of over two million.
Although India is a parliamentary democracy,the country's politics has become dynastic or with high level of nepotism,possibly due to the absence of party organizations,independent civil-society associations which mobilize support for a party,or centralized financing of elections. The dynastic phenomenon is present at the national,state,regional,and district level. The Nehru–Gandhi family has produced three Indian prime ministers,and family members have largely led the Congress party since 1978. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also has several dynastic leaders. In addition to the major national parties,other national and regional parties such as Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK),Shiromani Akali Dal,Shiv Sena,Samajwadi Party,Rashtriya Janata Dal,Janata Dal Secular,Jharkhand Mukti Morcha,Kerala Congress,Jammu &Kashmir National Conference,Indian Union Muslim League,AIMIM,and the Nationalist Congress Party are all dominated by families,mostly those of the party founders.
The Punjab Legislative Assembly or the Punjab Vidhan Sabha is the unicameral legislature of the state of Punjab in India. The Sixteenth Punjab Legislative Assembly was constituted in March 2022. At present,it consists of 117 members,directly elected from 117 single-seat constituencies. The tenure of the Legislative Assembly is five years unless dissolved sooner. The counting of votes declaration of results was done on 10 March 2022. The Fifteenth Punjab assembly was dissolved on 11 March 2022. The dissolution was necessitated after the results of the election was declared on 10 March. In the Sixteenth Punjab Legislative Assembly,92 members of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party form the treasury benches. The main opposition party in the assembly is Indian National Congress with 18 seats. The other parties which are in opposition are the Shiromani Akali Dal,the Bharatiya Janata Party,the Bahujan Samaj Party and independents. AAP MLA,Kultar Singh Sandhwan was announced as the speaker of the assembly.
