Gianluca Lorenzi (born 1 April 1969) is an Italian politician and former curler serving as mayor of Cortina d'Ampezzo since 2022. [1] He oversees the town's preparations for the 2026 Winter Olympics,for which he was awarded the Gold Collar for Sports Merit in 2024. [2]
Lorenzi is the son of curler Ivo Lorenzi. [3] He joined the national men's junior curling team in 1986,and held the role of vice-skip. [4] In 1997,he joined the national men's team. [5] He served as president of the Associazione Albergatori di Cortina from 2000 to 2006 and from 2016 to 2017,and was concurrently a board member of the Federalberghi Veneto. [6] From 2002 to 2007,he served as assessor for tourism of Cortina d'Ampezzo. [7] He served as municipal councillor for tourism under Gianpietro Ghedina from 2017 until his resignation in 2018. [8] He was appointed board member of Servizi Ampezzo in 2019, [9] and resigned from the municipal council in 2020 as a result. [10] He remained as a board member until 2022. [8] In the 2022 local elections,he campaigned on incumbent mayor Ghedina having lost contact with the town due to his focus on the 2026 Winter Olympics. [11]

The Dolomites Railway,originally the Ampezzaner Bahn or Ampezzaner Railway,was a railway in Northern Italy crossing the Dolomites mountains. The 64.9-kilometre (40.3-mile) long railway began in Calalzo and ended in Toblach. Its gauge was 950 mm —"Italian metre gauge". The IOC selected Milan-Cortina d'Ampezzo to host the 2026 Winter Olympics at the 134th IOC Session in Lausanne,Switzerland on 24 June 2019.
The 2026 Winter Olympics and 2026 Winter Paralympics,hosted by the cities of Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo,will make use of 25 event venues across four clusters in northern Italy. These consist of nineteen existing venues,two newly-built venues,and four temporary venues. Over 90% of the venues consist of ones that already exist or temporary ones.
