Gideon Lucas Gwani (born 20th-century) is a Nigerian politician currently serving as House Minority Whip. [1]

He is a PDP member of the house of representatives from Kaduna State. [2] [3] He lost his re-election to the House in the February 25, 2023 National Assembly elections to a political newcomer Mathew Donatus of the Labour Party who polled 10,508 votes to defeat Gwani who scored 10,297 votes.

The 2023 Nigerian gubernatorial elections were held for state governors in 31 out of 36 Nigerian states. All but three elections were held on 18 March—concurrent with elections to every state house of assembly, three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections—while the Imo State, Kogi State, and Bayelsa State elections will be held on 11 November. Mathew Donatus is a Nigerian politician and House of Representatives member elect for Kaura Federal Constituency of Kaduna State. Running on the Labour Party ticket an unpopular party in the area, and having no campaign funds, he was lowly rated in the election. His surprise victory at the poll was a major upset to the ruling party APC and the major opposition party PDP in the state. He is widely known as an Okada rider who defeated incumbent House of Representatives member.

Between December 19 and 25, 2022, several villages in Kagoro, Kaduna State, Nigeria were attacked by unknown groups, who killed over 46 people in two attacks.
