Gifa Palermo is an amateur Italian multi-sports club from Palermo, founded in 1979 [1] with major activities in the areas of diving and water polo. Currently its main activities are the women's water polo team and a center for start swimming and water polo. In 2004, the company was awarded the Bronze Star CONI. The president of the club is Fabio Gioia.
Eight years after the founding of the club, in 1987, a group of ex-swimmers chose the sports club to found a women's water polo team, [1] in 1989 after two seasons in the lower divisions, Gifa arrived in A1, a category in which it played uninterruptedly since then, getting even six second places. In the prize list of the team include two LEN trophies, won in 1999-00 and in 2001-02. [2] The team colors are pink and black. Currently the team plays in the championship serie A2.
LEN is the European governing body for aquatic sports affiliated to World Aquatics — it is the Continental Association for Europe. It was formally organized in 1927 in Bologna, and since 2015 is headquartered in Nyon.

Aleksandar Ćirić is a Serbian retired water polo player and current head coach of European powerhouse Olympiacos Women's Water Polo Team, who played for two Olympic bronze medal squads, one for FR Yugoslavia at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, the other for Serbia at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, and one Olympic silver medal squad for Serbia and Montenegro at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. His most notable achievements during his club career are: winning the Euroleague with VK Bečej in 2000, when he gained the title of MVP of competition; and four LEN Cups, three with Brescia and one with VK Radnički Kragujevac.
The LEN Euro Cup is the second-tier European water polo club competition run by the Ligue Européenne de Natation for those clubs who did not qualify for the LEN Champions League. The cup was inaugurated in 1992.
The European Water Polo Championship is a sport competition for national water polo teams, currently held biannually and organized by the Ligue Européenne de Natation (LEN), the governing European aquatics federation. There are both men's and women's competitions.

The 2010-11 Women's LEN Trophy was the 12th edition of the second tier of LEN's international competitions for women's water polo clubs. Twenty teams from eleven countries took part in the competition, which ran from 10 December 2010 to 20 April 2011.

The LEN Women's Euro Cup, formerly the Women's LEN Trophy, is LEN's second-tier competition for women's water polo clubs. It was first held in 2000 as the LEN Women's Cup Winners' Cup. It was contested for many seasons by around 15 teams, which could qualify for it either directly due to high ranking in their domestic league or by being eliminated at certain stages of the Champions' Cup. After the last reformations in the European competitions system by LEN, only four teams contesting for the trophy, coming after elimination at that season's LEN Euro League quarterfinals stage. Italy's Gifa Palermo, Ortigia, Racing Roma, Imperia, Russia's Shturm Ruza, and Greece's Ethnikos are the most successful clubs in the competition with two titles each.

The Greek Women's Water Polo A1 League is the premier championship for women's water polo teams in Greece. It was founded in 1988, and it is currently contested by twelve teams. Greek League is ranked as one of the top national domestic leagues in European water polo. The champion, the runner-up and the third-placed team qualify for the LEN Euro League.
Rapallo Pallanuoto or simply Rapallo is a club affiliated to the Italian Swimming Federation re-founded in 2012 on the way of previous historical Rapallo Nuoto, the latter operating from 1971 to 2011. The club is active in three areas: swimming, water polo and master. The team plays its home games in the Olympic pool Municipal of San Pietro di Novella in Rapallo, near Genoa. Currently the women's water polo team participates in Serie A1; the male, after the promotion in 2013, are recorded in Serie A2.
The 2021–22 Women's LEN Trophy is the 23rd edition of the European second-tier tournament for women's water polo clubs. It was a two-legged final that was played in Dunaújváros, Hungary, and Piraeus, Greece on 25 and 30 March 2022. Ethnikos won its second LEN Trophy to become the Greek team with the most titles regarding this competition.
