It was played at the Vista Vallarta Club de Golf in the resort of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico over a course which was designed by Jack Nicklaus. It was the only Champions Tour event in Mexico in 2006, and was the richest golf tournament of any kind to be staged in that country. A richer PGA Tour event called the Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun debuted in 2007. Morris Hatalsky won the tournament, taking the winner's US$240,000 share of the $1,600,000 purse.

He was previously a member of the PGA Tour, where he won twice, including most notably the 2009 PGA Championship when he came from behind to defeat Tiger Woods, thus winning the first major championship by a male player born in Asia. He is occasionally known by the nickname The Tiger Killer.
The World Wide Technology Championship is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour in Mexico, contested at the Tiger Woods-designed El Cardonal golf course within the Diamante Cabo San Lucas resort. It debuted in February 2007 and was the first PGA Tour event to take place in Mexico. The first 16 years of the tournament took place in Riviera Maya before the tournament was moved to Los Cabos in 2023.

The Father/Son Challenge, titled since 2020 as the PNC Championship under a sponsorship agreement with PNC Financial Services, is an annual golf tournament for two-player teams, consisting of PGA Tour and Champions Tour golfers and (usually) their sons. It is played over two days for the Willie Park Trophy, in memory of the father and son British Open champions Willie Park Sr. and Willie Park Jr. The field of twenty teams plays a scramble format. In 2012, the prize fund was $1,000,000; the tournament is jointly owned by IMG and NBC Sports.

The Hyundai Team Matches were a series of golf tournaments from 1994 to 2002. The matches features four two-player teams from the LPGA Tour, the PGA Tour, and the Senior PGA Tour. Within each tour, the teams competed in a match play format. It was played at three different locations in California. The event was known as the Diners Club Matches from 1994 to 1999.
