The Global Business Coalition (GBC) is an organization founded in 2001 by George Soros and Ted Turner, headed by Richard Holbrooke until 2009. It is involved in fundraising for HIV/AIDS research. [1] Bill Gates also provided funding, and Trevor Neilson served as executive director. [2] [3]

This multistakeholder international organization maintains its secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland. The organization began operations in January 2002. Microsoft founder Bill Gates was one of the first donors to provide seed money for the partnership. From January 2006 it has benefited from certain US Privileges, Exemptions, and Immunities under executive order 13395, which conferred International Organizations Immunities Act status on it.

The organization also educates journalists, editors and producers on how to cover the issue. HIV is preventable, and GMAI members aim to improve public awareness and knowledge to help stem the spread of HIV/AIDS.

He is the founder and former president and CEO of the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) and former CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. He is currently a senior advisor to the Pandemic Center at Brown University School of Public Health.
The Global Health Council is a United States-based non-profit leading networking organization "supporting and connecting advocates, implementers and stakeholders around global health priorities worldwide". The Council is the world's largest membership alliance dedicated to advancing policies and programs that improve health around the world. The Council serves and represents thousands of public health professionals from over 150 countries. They work "to improve health globally through increased investment, robust policies and the power of the collective voice.": According to their website the Council "convenes stakeholders around key global health priorities and actively engages key decision makers to influence health policy."
Geeta Rao Gupta is a leader on gender, women's issues, and HIV/AIDS who is serving as United States Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issues since May 2023. She previously served as executive director of the 3D Program for Girls and Women and senior fellow at the United Nations Foundation since 2017. She is frequently consulted on issues related to AIDS prevention and women's vulnerability to HIV and is an advocate for women's economic and social empowerment to fight disease, poverty and hunger.
B.J. Stiles is a retired nonprofit leader who has made award-winning contributions in several arenas: publishing and communications, civil and human rights, and philanthropy. For example, in 1964 he received an award from the Educational Press Association of America for excellence in educational journalism. He was at the forefront of creating and leading private sector responses to HIV/AIDS in the 1980s and 1990s. Dr. Debrework Zewdie, former director of the World Bank Global AIDS Program and Deputy Executive Director and COO of the Global Fund, is an Ethiopian national who has led strategy, policy implementation, and management of development programs at country, regional, and global levels for international bodies such as the World Bank and The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. As an immunologist, she conceptualized and managed the groundbreaking US$1 billion Multi-country HIV/AIDS Program that changed the AIDS funding landscape and pioneered the large-scale multi-sectorial response with direct financing to civil society and the private sector. Dr. Zewdie led the articulation of the World Bank's first global strategy on HIV/AIDS and the Global HIV/AIDS Program of Action. As a founding UNAIDS Global Coordinator, she has been instrumental in making the unique cooperative structure of the UNAIDS family a working reality, fostering strong inter-agency partnerships. She is an advocate for women's health and was a founding vice president and member of the Society for Women and AIDS in Africa (SWAA). She established institutional rigor at the Global Fund and led its wide-ranging internal reform which culminated in the ongoing corporate transformation program. Dr. Zewdie has a Ph.D. in clinical immunology from the University of London, a postdoctoral fellowship at SYVA Company, and was a Senior MacArthur Fellow at the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies. Dr. Zewdie was a Richard L. and Ronay A. Menschel Senior Leadership Fellow at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2015. During her Fellowship at the Harvard Chan School, she also participated as a speaker on Voices in Leadership, an original webcast series, in a discussion titled, "Leadership in Getting AIDS on the World Bank Agenda", moderated by Dr. Barry Bloom.
The Nigerian Business Coalition Against AIDS (NIBUCAA) is a coalition of Private organizations in Nigeria with the aim to complement government's effort in combating the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Nigeria. It was inaugurated on 15 February 2003 by the former president of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as part of the Nigerian national response to the HIV epidemic. The purpose of the Coalition is to harness the resources of the private sector to support the government in preventing the spread and mitigating the impact of HIV and AIDS in communities; to ensure that people within the corporate workforce, the most-at-risk population and Nigerians in general have access to HIV Counselling, testing, support and Information.
Artist and AIDS activist Whoopi Goldberg hosted the Awards Dinner on 2 June, where the Global Coalition honoured its two founding supporters George Soros and Ted Turner. The GBC also paid special tribute to U.S. Ambassador Richard Holbrooke who headed the Coalition from 2001 to 2009 and passed away earlier this year.
