Golam Shabbir Sattar (born 1962) is a Bangladeshi academic. He was appointed vice-chancellor of the University of Rajshahi in 2021. [2] [3]
Golam Shabbir Sattar was born on December 31,1962,to Sufia Khatun and Golam Sattar. [1]
In 1984,Sattar graduated from the University of Rajshahi with a B.Sc. degree. He completed an M.Sc. there the following year. He earned an M.Phil. in 1996 from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. [1] He received a Ph.D. in 2005 from the University of Rajshahi for his dissertation Combined analysis of geoelectrical and hydrogeological data for the evaluation of groundwater potentiality in Chapai-Nawabganj area of Bangladesh. [4]
Sattar join RajSattar was the chair of the Department of Geology &Mining at the University of Rajshani from 2013 to 2016. [1] He was also the student adviser of the university from 2009 to 2012. [2] He is the director of the Institute of Environmental Science. [5]

On the evening of 11 March 2023, clashes between students of Rajshahi University and local businesspersons occurred in Binodpur on the outskirts of the university campus in Rajshahi, Bangladesh. The clashes started over a mere issue of argument about bus fare between a university student and bus authority- where locals got engaged. The clashes injured hundreds of students, meanwhile, dozens of vendors were burnt along with the local police post. The clashes were later surpassed by law-enforcement agencies around midnight. Traffic was closed on the Rajshahi-Dhaka Highway and rail communication was interrupted due to students' blockade.
