Golden League (California)

The Golden League is a high school athletic conference in Los Angeles County, California affiliated with the CIF Southern Section.^[1] All the current schools are part of the Antelope Valley Union High School District.

An athletic conference is a collection of sports teams, playing competitively against each other at the professional, collegiate, or high school level. In many cases conferences are subdivided into smaller divisions, with the best teams competing at successively higher levels. Conferences often, but not always, include teams from a common geographic region.

Los Angeles County, officially the County of Los Angeles, in the Los Angeles metropolitan area of the U.S. state of California, is the most populous county in the United States, with more than 10 million inhabitants as of 2018. The California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section (CIF-SS) is the governing body for high school athletics in most of Southern California and is the largest of the ten sections that comprise the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Its membership includes most public and private high schools in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Mono and Inyo counties, as well as a small portion of Kern County. Teams from the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and surrounding areas have competed in the CIF Los Angeles City Section since 1935. Needles High School, at the far eastern edge of San Bernardino County, and Coleville High School, in the far north of Mono County, are members of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association. CIFSS's offices are located in Los Alamitos.

Antelope Valley High School is located in Lancaster, California, and is part of the Antelope Valley Union High School District, in northernmost Los Angeles County, California. It was founded in 1912, and had its first graduating class in 1912. It is located near the western edge of the Mojave Desert. At the time of its founding, classes were held at the Women's Independence Hall on Cedar Ave. and Lancaster Blvd. until a permanent building could be built. In July 1914, construction began on a concrete building, Central Hall, and was completed in mid-1915. However, a strike over unpaid wages prevented students from entering the new building at the beginning of the 1915 school year. It was settled, and students began their classes in the new building in October 1915. The school was a residential boarding school serving students from farms and ranches from north Los Angeles and south Kern counties. At present, the school primarily serves the population of Lancaster, California.

Eastside High School is located in Lancaster, California and is part of the Antelope Valley Union High School District. Eastside High school's address is 3200 East Avenue J-8, Lancaster, CA 93535. Eastside is the 8th and newest school in the district. The school opened its doors to freshmen in August 2005, with the first class graduating in May 2009. Before May 2009 the school was housed in portables. Classes are now held at the newly constructed site adjacent to the former site. It is a public school that serves 2592 students in grades 9-12. A school's Academic Performance Index (API) is a scale that ranges from 200 to 1000 and is calculated from the school's performance in the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program. The state has set 800 as the API target for all schools to meet.

Highland High School is located in Palmdale, California and is part of the Antelope Valley Union High School District. About 4,000 students attend Highland High School in grades 9 through 12. It received a California Distinguished School award in 2005.

The community is rural in character, with a population of 649 in 2010, but also has a strong recreational element centered on the three lakes in the vicinity. James Michael Slaton is a former pitcher with a 16-year career from 1971-1986. He played in the American League with the Milwaukee Brewers from 1971–1977 and 1979–1983, the Detroit Tigers in 1978 and 1986, and the California Angels from 1984-1986.

Knight High School is a four-year public high school located in Palmdale, California and is part of the Antelope Valley Union High School District. Knight High was the 7th general education school to join the district. The high school opened its doors to freshmen in August 2003 and these same freshmen were the first class to graduate, graduating on May 31, 2007. The high school was named after test pilot and politician William Joseph "Pete" Knight. The school has received much recognition for its band program which has placed first in many events. Knight High School has an approximate enrollment of 3,100 students.

City of Santa Clarita Transit is a local bus service, administered by the City's transit division, that serves the City of Santa Clarita, California and nearby surrounding unincorporated areas. Daily operations and maintenance of the fleet are under contract with MV Transportation. City of Santa Clarita Transit routes connect with services operated by Metro and Metrolink.

FC Santa Clarita (FCSC) is an American soccer team based in Santa Clarita, California, United States. FC Santa Clarita also known as the Santa Clarita Storm make just north of Los Angeles home, as they compete in the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL). Santa Clarita FC announced they joined the UPSL’s Western Conference November 5, 2014. The team is owned by American businessman Gary Brunner, President and CEO of United Sports International Inc. The team is Santa Clarita’s only sports franchise calling the area home with the encouragement and support of the city.

Sharon Runner was an American politician. She was a Republican California State Senator, who represented the 21st Senate District at the time of her death, and previously represented the 17th Senate District from 2011 to 2012. She was also a member of the California State Assembly from 2002 to 2008, representing the 36th district. She was the wife of California State Board of Equalization Member George Runner. From 2004 to 2008, then-Senator George Runner and then-Assemblywoman Sharon Runner were the first husband and wife in California history to serve concurrently in the California State Legislature.

Valley Christian High School (VCHS) is a private Christian high school located in Cerritos, California. It is one of the largest in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. It was founded in 1935 and is part of the Valley Christian Schools, a preschool-12 school system with 4 campuses enrolling more than 1200 students. The Sac-Joaquin Section (SJS) is the governing body of public and private high school athletics in parts of Northern San Joaquin Valley, California. Its geographic area also covers the California portion of the Lake Tahoe region; however, three schools in that area—North Tahoe, Truckee, and South Tahoe High Schools—are instead members of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association due to their relative isolation from other California schools and their proximity to more populated areas in Nevada, especially in the Reno area. The Freelance League is a name for a loosely defined high school athletic league that is part of the CIF Southern Section. Member schools are small schools. The word "Freelance" describes that they find competitive situations where available without a formal league structure. Schools are spread across the entire section from San Luis Obispo County to San Bernardino County and Riverside County. In certain sports some of these teams are part of other leagues.

The Inland Valley League is a high school athletic league that is part of the CIF Southern Section. Members are public high schools of Riverside, California and neighboring Moreno Valley.

The Los Padres League is the name for two high school athletic leagues that are part of the CIF Southern Section in California. One league is a football-only league, the other is a non-football league. Three schools are members of both leagues.

The University of Antelope Valley (UAV) is a regionally accredited private, for-profit university in Lancaster, California. It offers a variety of masters, bachelors, associate degrees, and certificate programs, as well as continuing education courses.
