Goliath and the Rebel Slave was released in Italy on September 5, 1963. [2] It was released in the United States in 1964 as The Tyrant of Lydia Against the Son of Hercules. [2]
A contemporary review in the Monthly Film Bulletin referred to the film as a "sluggish, run-of-the-mill affair which is weighed down by arguments, disputes and torturous double-crossings." [5] The review concluded that "the script is naive, the colour print poor, and the whole thing takes an age to disentangle itself" [5]

Hercules, Prisoner of Evil is a 1964 Italian peplum film directed by Anthony Dawson and an uncredited Ruggero Deodato. Deodato, the official assistant director, replaced Margheriti as he was busy with the completion of the film The Fall of Rome. Deodato actually directed most of the film in actuality but Margheriti was credited as the director.
