Marie Grace Nyinawumuntu (born 316 December 1981) is a Rwandan football manager and former footballer. [1] [2] [3]

Early life

Nyinawumuntu grew up playing sports with her male cousins. [4]

Education

Nyinawumuntu attended the Lycée de Kigali in Rwanda. [5] She then obtained a master's degree in physical education and sport. [6]

Playing career

Nyinawumuntu played for the city of Kigali, where she was described as "her impressive performances earned her a place in the national team". [7]

Style of play

Nyinawumuntu mainly operated as a central defender. [8]

Managerial career

Nyinawumuntu is the first Rwandan female international referee and the first Rwandan female national football manager. [9] Nyinawumuntu attended a coaching course in Germany in 2008. [10] She managed Rwandan side AS Kigali, helping the club win the league. [11]

Personal life

Nyinawumuntu's father died in the Rwandan genocide. [12] She has been married to a lawyer. [13]

The blues of Rwanda are said to have more than 80% of Football fans in the country, which makes it the most popular team in Rwanda and the only competent citizen-owned club in the country of a thousand hills.

The Rwanda Premier League is the highest division of football in Rwanda. The league was formed in 1975. It was known as the Primus National Football League in 2004 and from 2009–10 to 2012–13, after which sponsorship was taken over by Turbo King. The league was renamed the Azam Rwanda Premier League for the 2015–16 season after Tanzanian television broadcasters Azam TV were announced as sponsors in a deal worth US$ 2.35 million covering five years. From 2019/the 2020 season Azam TV announced the termination of its contract with Rwanda FA.
