Grampian Police Pipe Band is a Grade 2 pipe band associated with Grampian Police.

History

The band was formed as Aberdeen City Police Pipe Band in 1907, wearing the Hunting Gordon tartan. [1] In 1965 a new uniform was introduced with the Black Stewart tartan. [1]

The merger of police forces in the north of Scotland to create Grampian police resulted in the present name of the band being adopted.

Th band was promoted to Grade 1 for the start of the 1995 season, until it moved back to Grade 2 in 2005. For the 2012 season, the band returned to Grade 1, having changed both its pipe major and drum sergeant. [1] [2] It placed 16th overall in the 2012 World Pipe Band Championships. [3] [4]

Events

The band plays at highland games and RSPBA competitions as well as police and community events. [1] In 1990, the band played for the Queen Mother to celebrate her 90th birthday. [1]

Membership

The band is open to both civilians and members of the police force. [5] It currently has 0 members. [2]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Regimental Pipes and Drums of The Calgary Highlanders</span>

The Regimental Pipes and Drums of The Calgary Highlanders is an authorized volunteer pipe band associated with The Calgary Highlanders of the Canadian Forces. For many years, the band was a bona fide, and separate, military unit unto itself, with a separate Unit Identification Code within the CF. Today, the band has been reduced to volunteer status but officially maintains an establishment of eight paid military musicians on its rolls. The band has had mixed success in competitions, but under the direction of Pipe Major Michael Giles had become successful in the Grade Three circuit in Alberta in the years leading up to the regimental centennial in 2010. The band published a recording to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Regiment in 1990, titled Eighty Years of Glory and commemorated its centennial in 2010 by releasing a second CD entitled Onward.

Torphichen and Bathgate Pipe Band are based in West Lothian, Scotland and compete at the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association's Grade 2 level.

Invergordon Distillery Pipe Band was a pipe band associated with the Invergordon Distillery. The band was characterised by the extremely high calibre of the individual players.

The Worcester Kiltie Pipe Band is a Grade 2 pipe band from Worcester, Massachusetts. It is led by pipe major Davy Methven and lead drummer Colum Lundt. They compete in the United States, Canada and the UK and wear the Modern Scott tartan. They were the first band from the United States to rise to prominence in Grade 1, and in 1964 became the first US band to compete at the World Pipe Band Championships.
