The Grand Bahama Port Authority [1] ( GBPA or "Port Authority") is a privately held corporation that also acts as the municipal authority for Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, The Bahamas. The GBPA was created by the Hawksbill Creek Agreement.
The GBPA is horizontally integrated with property development, municipal services, airport (world's largest privately owned airport) harbour operations, and shipyard concerns.
The GBPA partners with Hutchison Whampoa on the container port (through Hutchison Port Holdings) and resort area at Lucaya. The Grand Bahama Port Authority is jointly owned by the Hayward and St. George families. Ian Rolle currently serves as President and Co - Chair of The Grand Bahama Port Authority.

Grand Bahama is the northernmost of the islands of The Bahamas, with the town of West End located 56 nautical miles east of Palm Beach, Florida. It is the third largest island in The Bahamas island chain of approximately 700 islands and 2,400 cays. The island is roughly 530 square miles (1,400 km2) in area and approximately 153 kilometres (95 mi) long west to east and 24 kilometres (15 mi) at its widest point north to south. It was privately owned until the government of The Bahamas purchased it in April 29 2021 for one Bahamian dollar, a deal they were able to procure largely due to the devastation from Hurricane Dorian, which almost completely destroyed the airport in 2019. The Bahamian government spent a approximately $1 million on staff severance costs as part of the deal.

Western Air is a commercial airline based in The Bahamas offering daily flights throughout the islands of The Bahamas and South Florida. Western Air is a privately owned airline, established in 2000, headquartered at the San Andros Airport on Andros Island. The airline operates its own passenger terminal and full service maintenance facility at the Grand Bahama International Airport. Western Air's uniformed fleet of EMB145 50-seater jets with one-class cabins are heavily utilized by Bahamian locals and tourists to travel between the city of Nassau and the outer islands, such as Bimini, Exuma, Cat Island, Andros, Abaco and Grand Bahama. Western Air launched its first US route, between Nassau and Fort Lauderdale, Florida in May 2022.

West End is the oldest town and westernmost settlement on the Bahamian island of Grand Bahama. It is agreed by most academics and lawmakers that West End is the current capital of Grand Bahama, contrary to the popular belief that Freeport City is the capital of the island. Yet however, some lawmakers continue to insist that Freeport City is the legitimate capital of Grand Bahama. It is also the third largest settlement in The Bahamas. There is one airport in West End, West End Airport, which serves mostly private aircraft. Since the 1950s, the settlement of West End has fluctuated with the rise and fall of the adjacent resort developments.
The Freeport Container Port (FCP) is a major container port in Grand Bahama, The Bahamas, located just west of Freeport. FCP is owned and operated by Hutchison Port Holdings, and opened on July 16, 1997. Since then, Freeport Container Port has become a major transshipment hub in the Western Hemisphere, earning the nickname "Transshipment Hub of The Americas." Freeport Container Port can handle bulk, container, general cargo, passenger, tanker, gas, roro, and reefer cargo, and its UN/LOCODE is BSFPO.
