History

The hotel opened in October 1990 as the Hotel Nikko Atlanta, owned by Nikko Hotels. The Japanese owners introduced Japanese Zen gardens and a sushi restaurant.

In February 1997, Hyatt Corporation purchased the hotel and renamed it the Grand Hyatt Atlanta. [3] There were already two Hyatt hotels in the Atlanta area at that time, the Hyatt Regency Atlanta and Hyatt Regency Suites Perimeter Northwest.

Grand Hyatt Atlanta in Buckhead has 439 guest rooms and 20 luxury suites. The full-service hotel has two restaurants, Cassis and Onyx at the Grand.

The Roxy Theatre was a movie palace in Atlanta, Georgia. It was notable for showcasing the original Atlanta runs of such films as Spartacus, the 1962 The Music Man, the Technicolor Mutiny on the Bounty with Marlon Brando, and My Fair Lady. It was torn down in 1972 to make way for the Westin Peachtree Plaza, the hotel that was prominently featured in the 1981 film Sharky's Machine. It should not be confused with the Coca-Cola Roxy Theatre, originally the Buckhead Theatre, a different building in Buckhead. Phipps Tower is a 20-story office tower in Buckhead, Atlanta. It is adjacent to the Phipps Plaza shopping center. John Hancock Life Insurance Company owns, manages and leases the building. It is on a 2.96-acre (12,000 m2) plot of land.
