The Women's Football League was a small women's American football league that began playing in 2002. Its last season was in 2007. It was composed of four teams, one in Grand Rapids, Michigan, one in Tennessee, one in North Carolina, and one in Jacksonville, Florida, who now play in the Women's Football Alliance.

Fifth Third Ballpark is a baseball stadium located in Comstock Park, Michigan, just north of Grand Rapids. Established as Old Kent Park in 1994, the stadium hosts a minor league baseball team, the West Michigan Whitecaps, and other sporting events. The ballpark's Fifth Third Burger was featured on an episode of Man v. Food. A fire damaged some of the first base side of the stadium on January 3, 2014, but the stadium re-opened in time to host the Whitecaps for the 2014 season.

The Grand Rapids City League (GRCL) was a high school athletic league in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The GRCL originated in the spring of 1928 when seven Grand Rapids high schools competed in the first City Track Meet on May 18-19. The meet doubled as the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Class A Regional Meet. Catholic Central, Central, Creston, Davis Tech, Ottawa Hills, South and Union competed in the meet under the direction of newly appointed City League athletic director Henry Lightner. The league's final membership consisted of the four public high schools of the Grand Rapids Public Schools plus Catholic Central, West Catholic and Christian.
The 1999 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup ran from June to October 1999, open to all soccer teams in the United States. It was the first Open Cup tournament to be named after Lamar Hunt. The Rochester Raging Rhinos of the A-League defeated the Colorado Rapids 2–0 in the final at Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. The Rhinos became the only non-division one team to win the Open Cup title since the inception of Major League Soccer by defeating four MLS teams in the tournament. Another A-League team - the Charleston Battery - also reached the semifinals, and the A-League's Staten Island Vipers were the other non-division one squad to beat an MLS team.
The Grand Rapids Chicks were a women's professional baseball team based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They played in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League from 1945 to 1954, winning championships in 1947 and 1953.

The Grand Rapids Drive are an American professional basketball team of the NBA G League and is an affiliate of the Detroit Pistons of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The franchise began as the Anaheim Arsenal in 2006, before relocating to Springfield, Massachusetts, in 2009, becoming the Springfield Armor. After five seasons in Springfield, the franchise moved to Grand Rapids in 2014 and were subsequently renamed the Grand Rapids Drive. They play their home games at the DeltaPlex Arena in Walker, Michigan.

The league was a part of the United States Adult Soccer Association.
