Grantham railway station was a railway station on the Main Line railway in Queensland, Australia. [1] It served the town of Grantham in the Lockyer Valley Region.

Description

The station building has been removed to the Gatton And District Historical Museum at Gatton in 1996, though the site still houses some sheds and a concrete platform on the northern side of the railway.

Trains on this route originate from Nottingham via the Nottingham to Grantham Line as an hourly through service from Nottingham to Skegness, with slower stopping services at peak times. The line is operated by East Midlands Railway British Rail Class 156 "Super-Sprinter", British Rail Class 170 "Turbostar" and British Rail Class 158 "Sprinter Express" diesel multiple units.

Grantham rail accident Rail accident in Lincolnshire on 19 September 1906

The Grantham rail accident occurred on 19 September 1906. An evening Sleeping-Car and Mail train from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh Waverley hauled by Ivatt 'Atlantic' No 276 derailed, killing 14. The accident was never explained; the train ran through Grantham station, where it was scheduled to stop, and derailed on a set of points on a sharp curve at the end of the platform, which at the time had been set for a freight train. No reason was ever established as to why the train did not stop as scheduled, or obey the Caution and Danger signals.
