The Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC) is a headquarters staff within the Department of the Navy which includes the offices of the Commandant of the Marine Corps, the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps and various staff functions. The function, composition, and general duties of HQMC are defined in Title 10 of the United States Code, Subtitle C, Part I, Chapter 506.

He previously served as commandant of the National War College from 2023 to 2024. He also served as commander of United States Marine Forces Central Command. Previously, he served as the Director of Strategy and Plans at HQMC; Deputy Commanding General of the III Marine Expeditionary Force and Commanding General of the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade from July 26, 2019, to July 10, 2020.
